Dear Sir/Madam;
I have known Candace Salverda since 2004 and have had the privilege of working with her in a professional capacity.
She was originally hired as a part time assistant to the Office Manager at the school where I was working as Vice Principal. In that role, Candace quickly excelled at the designated tasks for her role and soon after, she took on the same half time job at another local school, providing her with full time employment. She handled both commitments effectively, transitioning from one to the other during the lunch break. It was evident that her time management and organizational skills enabled her to carry out her duties successfully at both schools.
As the first person to greet the public, Candace was welcoming and helpful. We often heard from parents about the caring atmosphere they witnessed when coming into the office, especially for the first time. Candace was also the point person for children who peppered the day with lost teeth, sore tummies, cuts and scrapes, and headaches. She was able to follow the correct protocols while providing the gentle care required at the time. With the older students, Candace often used appropriate humour while ensuring needs were met. Her ability to accommodate the individual needs of those who came to her is part of her character and personality.
The school was a very busy place and the office team was confident that Candace could handle routine tasks as well as the spontaneous needs that arose. As a team that also enjoyed camaraderie and lightheartedness, it was never at the expense of getting the job done.
Taking initiative, Candace supported the redesign of the office to maximize efficiency. She happily returned after her second job to give unpaid time to a job that needed to be done after hours. This is just one example of the ways Candace went above and beyond the scope of her job.
When I became principal of my own school, Candace had been promoted to an Office Manager position, taking on daily or short term positions. She became my “go to” supply when my Office Manager was absent because I could rely on her to step into the job and proceed with little direction required. I knew there would be a seamless transition and that she was capable of handling the main office in an independent manner, completing daily jobs that were common to the role.
I wholeheartedly believe that Candace will bring excellent skills to any office position and will execute her role with professionalism. As a team member, she is dependable, organized, efficient and personable. I will most happily provide further details by telephone at one of the following numbers 905-***-**** (home) or 416-***-**** (cell).
Sincerely,
Lesley Risinger – Principal (Retired)
To whom it may concern;
Candace was usually the first face I saw in the morning when I got to work. Her warm, supportive, and positive demeanour and personality contributes to building and supporting a community at Fairlawn.
As a teacher, I regularly have questions, need help with purchasing, or need some support with any extracurricular that I am running. Candace is always there and regularly goes above and beyond. For example, for numeracy night, my idea was to create goodie bags with manipulative, booklets and questions for each family. Candace volunteered and did all the purchasing (card stock, manipulatives, etc), photocopying and assembling. She is resourceful! The office is so organized with the specific books and items that teachers access. She found everything we needed for that night (pizza boxes, bins, measuring tape, rulers). Despite her regular responsibilities, she not only supported me with this huge project, she was enthusiastic and excited for the evening. She stayed that evening and even invited her children to help out! She's a team player.
From previous experiences with office managers, I have felt that I am "bothering" them or interrupting their work by asking for some help/support. With Candace, it's such that I feel supported and welcomed! She's always so willing to help and does so with a genuine desire to support each of us. Each time I have asked her to help with photocopying or purchasing she has it complete and sent to me within minutes. And every "thank you" is always responded with a "no problem, tell me more about what you're doing, it looks amazing!". Her commitment to her office responsibilities extend beyond paperwork, she's committed to student success and fostering a family environment at our school. From decorating our office to themed events, being our social committee coordinator and organizing ALL our social events, baking goodies for our staff, greeting each child and staff member warmly, visiting our classrooms during her lunch break, having meaningful and uplifting conversations with our students and speaking to us (and our students) when we're having a bad day, Candace is a leader and role model. She takes interest in what the students are learning and advocates for their best interest. She juggled multiple responsibilities and conversations in the office and never lets anyone feel neglected. She's efficient in all her responsibilities, always welcomes each student and staff member with a smile, and truly demonstrates love and commitment to her job.
Candace demonstrates collaboration and working amicably with her colleagues. Her and the other two office assistants work collaboratively together, by supporting each other both personally and professionally. Her warmth extends to all members of the Fairlawn Community - families, students, teachers, support staff, custodians. She's an asset to our school.
Her leadership in building Fairlawn (it's a new school) is commendable. I'm truly grateful to have worked with Candace. Along with her incredible efficiency, knowledgeable, resourcefulness and organizational skills, she's taught me the value of working collaboratively, being a positive role model for students and has demonstrated how valuable an office manager is to fostering a warm and positive climate.
Sincerely,
