Career objective

To apply my creative energy and strong research potential in a scientist position at a fast- evolving research industry, utilizing my tertiary knowledge and demonstrated history in research together with skills in Genomics, organization and teamwork. Education

Feb 2014 to Nov 2017 PhD (Applied biology and biotechnology) RMIT University, Melbourne.

Area of Expertise

Next-Generation Sequencing, Functional Genomics, Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, Molecular Genetics and High-throughput techniques. Employment:

Feb 2014 - Nov 2017 PhD Student

RMIT University

Responsibilities:

• To grow the plants in greenhouse and record physiological parameters in response to salt stress.

• RNA isolation, RNA-Sequencing library preparation and perform deep sequencing on Ion-proton (Life Technologies) and HiSeq3000 (Illumina, Inc).

• Analyze the trancsriptomic data to identify the differentially expressed genes in flowers and roots using bioinformatics tools.

• Develop ab initio transcriptome assembly and identify the long noncoding RNA and their potential role in regulating the gene expression.

• Study phenomenon like Alternative splicing, Motif identification, Variant calling, and Gene network.

• Perform qRT-PCR analysis to validate the gene expression.

• Study the ion-compartmentalization using Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM)

(JEOL1010, JEOL2100) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)-EDX.

• Writing project reports and research articles.

Achievements:

• Identified 5022 differentially expressed genes regulation cell wall morphogenesis during the root development in response to the salt stress.

• Identified 7000 long noncoding RNA and their putative functions in gene expression.

• Published research articles.

• Accorded with 3MT thesis winner 2015.

Oct 2010 – May 2013 Research Fellow

International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics

(ICRISAT)

Responsibilities:

• To grow the plants in fields and record physiological parameters in response to drought and nitrogen fixation across the evolutionary gradient of Cicer arietinum.

• Study the flowering C-locus mutation, SNP genotyping, hairy root transformation, identify nif candidate genes, analyzing marker genotypic data for genetic mapping, QTL analysis, and gene expression analysis.

• Isolate and inoculate Mesorhizobium strain from nodules, inoculate the plants with strain to study impact of domestication on nitrogen fixation efficiency, and metagenomics study of Mesorhizobium strains.

• Writing reports, articles and discussing the project briefings.

• Attend International delegates, involved in organizing conferences and meetings, and teamwork.

Achievements:

• Successfully conducted multi-location trials of chickpea in India and at UC-Davis.

• Established phylogeny among the potential Mesorhizobium strains involved in nitrogen fixation.

• Successfully established the hairy root protocol in chickpea. Feb 2006 – Sep 2010 Research Associate

Indian Institute of Pulses Research

Responsibilities:

• Growing and phenotyping 196 Recombinant Inbred Lines RILs for Fusarium wilt resistance.

• DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, cDNA synthesis, cDNA library, EST-SSR development, mapping Fusarium wilt resistance.

• Study marker conservation across the species, parental polymorphism, genetic diversity, allele detection, and SNP detection deploying RAPD, SSR, ISSR molecular markers.

• Isolation and cloning of Protease Inhibitor gene in chickpea.

Help and train Master of Science students.

• Write the project reports, research articles, review the research articles and students dissertation reports and any other job given by my supervisor. Achievements:

• Established marker conservation across the genera in chickpea.

• Development SSR in chickpea to overcome molecular marker paucity.

• Established working protocols like DNA/RNA isolation, cloning, PCRs and NTSYS software for the first time in the laboratory.

• Proved to be an efficient troubleshooter, writer, reviewer, team mate and team leader. Publication(s): 15 peer reviewed research articles Social website link(s):
