Machining and Tooling Design
RECENT MECHANICAL PROJECTS
Designed a two piece Clean Building capable of being moved by overhead cranes, building also included explosion proof construction and incorporated its own heating and cooling system
Redesign of broach machine which included bearing plates to allow swiveling of head and adding height adjustment to machine
Designed all furnace stress relief tooling including piping to ASME Section B31.3, platforms, saddles, expansion joints, etc.
Designed “belly bands” for lifting of cylindrical vessels by using friction only
RECENT IMPLEMENTED COST SAVINGS PROJECTS
Design and implementation of new furnace piping (ASME B31.3) to accommodate different size pressure vessels. With the new design, the vessel could be raised in air, which allowed the center of the piping around the vessel centerline. Doing this allowed an almost mirrored version of the piping. This positioned the vessel to allow a single expansion joint to carry both the axial and lateral expansions. Grayloc hub connectors were also used and reduced the piping sizing directly at the furnace wall to lower cost. These features allowed the most economical design. Total Cost Savings: $275,000
Design a pressure vessel (ASME VIII Div. 1) spacer ring for high pressure usage. The original design was an A36 ring with an overlay weld on it. The design changed to have a ring forging made out of stainless steel. This prevented welding cladding to the A36 which resulted in significant cost savings. Total Cost Savings: $78,000
Redesign of leveling fixture used to level vessels up to 50,000 lbs. The original leveling fixture design used hydraulic action jacks to level the vessels. The redesigned system incorporated a lever hoist to eliminate the excessive costs associated with the action jack system. Total Cost Savings: $127,000
Design a steam clean system capable of cleaning tube sheets up to 8’ in diameter. The design included a CNC steam cleaner utilizing a CNC plasma table componentry and a built CNC gantry that was able to provide X and Y axis movement. This build allowed us our own system instead of incorporating a robot that would suffice in the same environment. Total Cost Savings: $200,000+
