Experience
Powell Electrical Systems Inc. – Houston, TX Feb. 2005 to Oct. 2017
Control Systems Engineer in Power Automation Dept. Oct. 2008 to Oct. 2017
Responsible for integration of intelligent electronic devices (IED’s) into a supervisory control and
data acquisition system (SCADA), through the use of various graphical interface packages, PLC’s, electrical protection relays and power metering devices.
Developed tag database in graphical interface software packages such as Wonderware, FactoryTalk View, EasyBuilder Pro and Cimplicity.
Prepared graphical representation or HMI development of electrical switchgear one-line drawings and relay faceplates.
Setup communication parameters and established communications with electrical protection relays, PLC’s, intelligent motor starter trip units, electrical metering devices etc.
Established ISO 9001 and UL standardization of new power automation safety products manufactured in Houston TX. Products include: Sentry Control Unit – that provides remote breaker operation, that allows the user to rack-in, rack-out, trip and close; as well as, remote thermal temperatures monitored via BriteSpot fiber optic temperature sensors.
Quality Assurance Test Engineer – responsible for inspection and testing all Power Automation Department products, communication network cabinets and HMI cabinets.
Took active measures to prevent non-conformances/deficiencies from occurring in custom manufactured products. control system panels, including network and HMI cabinets.
Responsible for preparing quality monthly reports of all Power Automation departments, compiling all the information from Oracle/Agile database.
Responsible for all quality documentation records, materials, workmanship and construction were in full compliance with specifications for each job; in preparation for annual ISO 9001 audit standards.
Manufacturing Supervisor and QA Test Engineer in PECO Dept. Feb. 2005 to Oct. 2008
Responsible for Supervising up to 20 shop employees in the manufacturing of Traction Power equipment and meeting all IEE standard requirements, as well as, UL listed equipment certifications.
Tested all traction power equipment manufactured at PECO under strict Powell QA Inspection testing requirements and safety standards. Provided customers detailed site acceptance testing.
Uniquely trained all shop employees to record their time in every phase of manufacturing operation, using lean manufacturing principles. This enabled our group to provide exactly what the customer valued, reduce man hours necessary to build equipment in an efficient manner to forecast schedules months in advance, and order materials at reduced costs.
Developed and delivered detailed manufacturing and testing procedure documentation and training material for all shop and engineering personnel.
