BRITISH TELECOM/OSS/FTTH

Associate-British Telecom (U.K)-This project involves migrating/converting/updating BT existing telephone network. This project involves data migration between BT PRM format to XML & AutoCAD to XML and back to BT PRM.

BT intends to migrate their existing Outside Plant Records and Telecommunication Network into Network Engineer, which is developed by ESRI.

They have chosen Avineon along with other two vendors for capturing data, which is partially in vector format and mostly in raster format.

An operational support system (OSS) is a set of programs that help a communications service provider monitor, control, analyze and manage a telephone or computer network New telecom industry trends are driving OSS/BSS systems requirements, with new service layer architecture and customer experience management at the core, causing a move to automated systems and management-as-service logic.

According to network operators, the top telecom industry trends in OSS/BSS systems and architecture are being driven by service layer architecture and changing the need to manage customer experiences rather than subscription services. The major changes include the following:

A transformation from a supply-side to demand-side vision of the business;

A transformation from craft (operations personnel) support to automated support

A transformation from management-as-an-overlay to management-as-service logic.

The Data Transformation Project is one of a number of projects within the BT PIPeRProgramme. The project will implement a system which will replace the existing GIS system and provide enhanced support for the automation of the network planning activities within BT. In addition,the project will populate this system with good quality network asset data there by making the data intelligent so that the data is loadable to ESRI Network Engineer module (NE). However, the draw process converts the hard copy of design plans to softcopy through the software called G/Technology. Interpreting the inputs like field report, 100 columns spreadsheet, photos of outside plant interface etc. In design we are doing so many tasks like, FTTH (fiber to the home), FTTN (fiber to the node), FTTB (fiber to the basement), INFRA(core work), FTTH is two types one is Greenfield and another one is Brownfield. Green field is placing fiber optic cables in newly developed areas where we don’t have existing facilities. In the newly developed areas we have to plan and design new fiber optic cables in new developed areas. Brownfield means where we have placing fiber optic

network in particular areas where we find existing facilities.Capture and attribution:
