Improved communication skills by entertaining the mentally ill, such as playing chess with patients every week. Allowed me to become more accepting of those who are different and struggling.

Cashier and bookkeeper at Twice as Nice Thrift Store. Experience with bookkeeping, carefully kept record of all transactions.

Experience with inventory management of clothing, books and other forms of media. Fully stocked thrift store with new clothes every day, kept track of what was for sale/sold.

Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care Senior Home – Scarborough, ON

A residential community for senior citizens (ages 65+), particularly those unable to care for themselves.

Caregiver to seniors, distributed food and fed those who were unable to feed themselves.

Demonstrated leadership by hosting events for seniors with mental disabilities such as Dementia and Alzheimer’s, which also taught me the importance of patience. Examples include running yoga, bingo and karaoke sessions.

Thoroughly and regularly cleaned to maintain health and safety of seniors. For example, using Lysol wipes to disinfect every individual card after a card game and frequently made sure seniors had clean hands by squirting hand sanitizer on their hands.

Maintained safety of seniors by personally transporting and keeping record of attendance through patient sign in/out.

Used fluency in Cantonese and English to translate, proofread and edit signs, letters, etc. that were written in English.

Recreational Programs Volunteer Jan 2014 – May 2014

Ontario Science Centre – North York, ON

A science museum for sharing knowledge about science, technology and society, offering hands-on experiences and engagement with science of local, national and global relevance.

Led activities for large groups (10-30 children) by working as a team. Coordinated, time managed and created events for children by incorporating science education in to games such as relay races.

Learnt the importance of following protocols to ensure safety of children. Made sure children were safe by maintaining strict rules such as no running, climbing, hurting others, etc. during events.

Improved communication skills by providing information to parents and children about the exhibits.

WE Day Volunteer Oct 2014

WE Charity/Free the Children – Toronto, ON

WE Day brings world-renowned speakers and A-list performers together with tens of thousands of young people to celebrate their contributions. The concert is held to raise money for Free the Children (WE charity), a worldwide development charity and youth empowerment movement.

Ensured guests were welcomed, informed, engaged and had an enjoyable experience by maintaining a positive attitude.

Learnt how to plan and manage thousands of people by facilitating a fast and efficient seating process to allow guests to have the best experience at the concert.

Demonstrated leadership by leading audience members through dancing, cheering and other audience interactions during musical performances and speeches.

Learnt the importance of professionalism in the workplace. Spoke with and guarded celebrities from fans. It was important that I did my job and made special guests feel comfortable.

Fundraiser May 2012 - May 2013

Bayview Hill Elementary School – Richmond Hill, ON

A grade JK - 8 Elementary school operated by the York Region District School Board.

Plan, led and raised money by working as a team to run carnival mainly occupied by children and teens. For example, making sure 6 children were allowed into the bouncy castle at a time, while rest waited in line with their purchased tickets.
