SELECTED ACHIEVEMENTS AND BUSINESS CONTRIBUTIONS
Negotiations
Negotiated a 1+% rebate on purchase of steel parts in the face of vendor’s strong resistance to changes in pricing. Proposed a plan that kept their pricing intact, while saving $5,700 on a $500K annual purchase.
Negotiated with a supplier to reduce contract increases for 2008 from 6% to 3%. Researched foreign trade journals and mining companies for pricing forecasts. Facilitated a formal meeting with the vendor to hear their forecasts. Counter proposal resulted in a savings of $7,500.
Saved $1.5MM on materials costs by maximizing transportation routes. Renegotiated materials prices with vendors to eliminate transportation costs. Selected two transportation vendors and set up a milk-run system.
Innovation and Problem Solving
Discovered and introduced an Indonesian vendor that became our company’s global supplier of rubber parts. In conversations with their senior management, encouraged them to become part of a global project. Convinced our Japanese parent company to utilize their capabilities. Relationship has successfully existed since 2004.
Resolved issue of consistent parts shortages for a new model manual seat device. Ascertained that the problem was not in the buyer’s process. Analyzed input into the MRP system and discovered that the Finished Goods structure was set up incorrectly. Inventory levels remained stable subsequently.
Developing Procedures
Revamped a localization program that localized $1.75MM in material and realize a savings of $550K for 2007. Developed a comprehensive strategy that allowed for systematic US sourcing based on ease of development time and potential savings.
Upon appointment as assistant manager of the purchasing department of a $400MM manufacturing facility, met and set priorities with the buying, cost planning and logistics groups on new model costing. With priorities in place, managed expectation of standards. Department was recognized for accuracy of information.
Created purchasing procedures and located sources for a startup manufacturing facility. Benchmarked other company processes. Solicited input from production managers and executives. Process was ready for the plant opening in 6 months and ran with little alteration.
