I have served in the US Navy as a combat-qualified corpsman since 1995 with a break in service from late in 2001 to June 2005. As a combat corpsman, I am medically qualified as an advanced life saver, in advanced trauma life support, and as senior line corpsman. While serving in Iraq, I was a member of the personal protection detail for the governor of Al-Anbar Province during a particularly troubling year. I am weapons qualified with handguns, rifles, light to heavy machine guns, and shoulder fired anti-tank weapons. I have also received advanced protection detail training in the Navy and at the Blackwater Academy. I have been trained in basic and advanced pistol tactics, basic and advanced carbine tactics, shotgun tactics, close quarters battles, protective security detail, principle recovery and extraction, land warfare tactics, land navigation with map and compass, land navigation with GPS, ground fighting techniques, and motorcade operations. Leading Petty Officer/Training Petty Officer (currently) As the Leading Petty Officer, I am responsible for all medical planning, logistics, and support for Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Battalion 24th Marines. During Field Operations, I manage the Battalion Aid Station where all injuries and illnesses are evaluated and treated as appropriate. I participate in the training evolutions to include patrolling, convoy operations, weapons training and qualifications, and aggressor force operations. I am the primary instructor for Basic Life Support, Tactical Combat Casualty Care, and Combat Life Saver. In late 2005 I was mobilized in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 5-7 with 3rd CAG. Prior to deployment, I participated in field training exercises to include the Enhanced Marksmanship Program training, MOUT training, convoy operations, Combat Trauma Management, security protection details and Stu Siegel Studios training. Upon arrival in country I was detached and assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines to provide medical and security support in the protection of the governor of the Al-Anbar province. While stationed at the Government Center in Ramadi Iraq, I participated in route planning, convoy operations, and close proximity protection of the Al-Anbar governor. I was primarily responsible for monitoring the health of the Governor of the Al-Anbar province and providing close proximity security during transit to and from the Government Center and his daily meetings. I performed daily assessments of his blood pressure, pulse, blood glucose levels and insured compliance of the Governors daily medication. I was responsible for reporting results to the Battalion Surgeon and adjusting medication doses as ordered. During the deployment I stood watch at the Center’s several security posts and entry control points, security patrols, sweep and clear operations, and was assigned to the Quick Reaction Force. I assisted in casualty treatment and evacuation and worked closely with the Independent Duty Corpsman. I developed and implemented the emergency response and evacuation plan for the Government Center. I established sick call protocols and evaluated and treated patients for illnesses and minor to severe injuries. I arranged several Combat Life Saver Courses where I served as the primary instructor. I certified 95% of the Marines as Combat Life Savers over a period of 2 months. In August 2006, I was reassigned to the Headquarters Detachment, 3rd CAG, as the Lead Petty Officer. My duties included providing medical and logistical support to 25 Corpsmen assigned to 3rd CAG, tracking all injured personnel and reporting status directly to the Commanding Officer, verifying Patient Casualty Reports prior to transmittal to I MEF Commanding Officer, assisting the Group Surgeon with medical and administrative duties and maintaining the health and well being of all Marines assigned to the command. While at the academy I was trained in basic and advanced pistol tactics, basic and advanced carbine tactics, shotgun tactics, close quarters battles, protective security detail, principle recovery and extraction, land warfare tactics, land navigation with map and compass, land navigation with GPS, ground fighting techniques, and motorcade operations. I scored high expert on the Department of State firearms proficiency course of fire for both handgun and rifle.

Senior Line Corpsman (last position)
As the senior line corpsman, I performed patient assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans and follow-ups. I also performed minor surgical procedures and sutured minor to severe lacerations. While in the field, I assessed injuries and illnesses and participated in the training evolutions. I participated in the planning and execution of field exercises. I received training in land navigation, MOUT, desert, jungle and mountain warfare and survival skills, basic and advanced pistol and rifle training, light, medium and heavy machine gun training, anti-tank weapon systems, vehicle operations, convoy operations, communication equipment, land warfare tactics, and helicopter operations. While on the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, I was trained in jungle warfare tactics and participated small unit tactical assault training. During the Group of 8 Summit I was assigned to the Riot Response Team during civilian protests. I was also assigned to the Quick Reaction Force to augment Secret Service personnel during President Clinton’s visits to various US installations. I was certified as a combat life saver instructor, combat assault climber, and EMT-Basic. Previously, as the shift leader of an ambulance crew, I performed initial and secondary patient assessments and provided pre-hospital treatment, including IV insertions, patient management, and collection of vital signs. I assisted in the emergency room, including running and assisting in codes, triaged patients, sutured lacerations and assisted with pediatric cases. I was certified in basic life support, basic trauma life support, pre-hospital trauma life support, advanced life support, advanced cardiac life support, advanced trauma life support, pediatric advanced life support, and emergency medical technician-basic. From May 1997-September 1997 I was attached to the Great Lakes Police Department to serve as a Guard at the entry control gates for the Great Lakes Naval Base.
