Sound Absorption Testing for Fibrous and Cellular Materials: 10/2017 to present

Research Assistant and NVH Lab Instructor at the University of Michigan – Dearborn.

18 materials were selected for study, including felts, fibers, foams and scrims of various thickness and densities using LMS Test.Lab

Conducted ASTM-prescribed experimental tests to determine air flow resistivity, absorption coefficient, Young’s Modulus and damping ratio of materials.

Future work involves using this data in NOVI material performance software to compute Sound Transmission Loss and Noise Reduction in cavities.

Study and Mitigation of Tire Cavity Resonance Noise: 09/2016-12/2016

Tire cavity of a P175/65/R15 tire was modelled on Autodesk Inventor 2014 and its modal analysis was performed on ANSYS 17.1.

Resonant frequencies were determined. The values were compared with theoretical results.

Modal analysis was repeated for tires of (a) different diameters (b) different areas of tire cross-section (c) alternate cavity fluids (Nitrogen/ Helium).

Suggested methods to mitigate the tire cavity resonance based on analyses results.

Noise Analysis of an Expansion Muffler with a tail-pipe discontinuity: 09/2016-12/2016

Muffler was modeled on Autodesk Inventor 2014. Acoustic analysis of the exhaust muffler was performed on ANSYS 17.1. Mode shapes between 1-999 Hz were obtained.

Sound Transmission Loss (STL) of exhaust muffler at various frequencies was obtained.

SAE NIS Efficycle 2014: 02/2014-10/2014

Head of Powertrain department in a team of 10.

Designed and fabrication a hybrid (electric-manual) chain drive for a three-wheeler vehicle to compete at the SAE NIS Efficycle 2014.

Manufactured an Aluminum hub-knuckle wheel assembly to integrate the various subsystems and components of the vehicle.
