“Screening of medicinal plants for anticancer activity using skin melanoma cells using A375cell line’’

Research Highlights

The emphasis of this investigation was to identify the potential anticancer activity in 8 medicinal plants namely Mentha piperita, Calotropis gigantia, Centella asiatica, Asparagus resimosus, Bahunia perpuria, Bahunia resimosus, Emblica officinalis, Vitex nigundo.

Stem and leaf extracts of the plant were prepared using carbinol. The extracts were screened against four bacterial species and one fungal species for their inhibitory effect. A carbinol extract of leaves and stem was found to be effective against bacteria but not on fungi. Phytochemical analysis of the plant extracts indicated the presence of bioactive compounds. Antioxidant property was determined using the two assays DPPH and ABTS. The cytotoxicity of the samples were assayed by MTT assay using A375 skin melanoma cell lines, and it was found that half of the plant extracts were positive.
