Department of Navy USS Makin Island – San Diego, CA

Hazardous Materials Technician / GS-510-14 2008 - 2013

The USS Makin Island is a preeminent “Full Service” amphibious assault ship operations in the Department of the Navy war ships. The USS Makin Island has over 3,500 Navy & Marine Corps personnel and the ships operations include technical aviation processing, administrative policies and procedures, human resource development, inventory management, and hazardous materials operations.

It was the responsibilities of Mr. Vonada to support the Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT), inventory management, and mailroom operations of the USS Makin Island. Mr. Vonada improve resource accountability to the USS Makin by assisting in the handling of sensitive HAZMATs, storeroom custodial accountability, accurate reporting of all inventory, and daily operations of the United States Postal Services (USPS) mail operations services. Mr. Vonada contribution helps ensure that effective management of and internal controls over the operations were in place and functioning. Responsibility descriptions includes:

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS MANAGER

• Conduct complete inventory of over 300 line items of HAZMATs achieving 97% validity, enabling the USS Makin Island to have full accountability of the ships hazardous materials.

• Monthly received, processed, and issued an average of 80 HAZMAT maintenance items accounting for 100% accuracy.

• Supervised over a 100 personnel during the ship-wide movement of over 500 HAZMAT line items from three storerooms to seven, secured connex boxes, ensuring 100% personnel and material safety during the high-risk move.

• On-load over 65 pallets for a total of 100,000 lbs of material and processed over 250 receipts while maintaining 100% accountability of all materials.

USS MAKIN ISLAND UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE OPERATIONS

• Under his leadership, his team received, processed, and distributed on average 808,725 pounds of mail per year.

• Collected and accounted for over $80K in USPS revenue per year.

• Processed over 5,000 pounds of certified and registered mail and maintained 100% accountability.

• From 2009 - 2013, Mr. Vonada has maintained an error-free inspection record.

• Coordinated and scheduled OMMS-NG training for over 40 sailors which provided the ship with better trained and qualified repair parts petty officers and work center supervisors.

Department of Navy NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center – Yokosuka, Japan

Large-Scale Material Operations Manager 2013 - 2016

The Navy Supply (NAVSUP) Logistics Center Yokosuka is the Western Pacific logistics integrator providing material, postal, bulk fuel, and supply chain services to afloat and shore based Seventh and Fifth Fleet Commands. As the lead, Mr. Vonada supervised a total of 32 military and civilian personnel, receive, process, and deliver the Navy’s largest Oversea Continental United States (OCONUS) military post office. Under his leadership, his team, on average process 1.2M pounds of mail and generate in excess of $2.2M in revenue for the United States Postal Service per year, with zero discrepancies in reporting. Responsibility descriptions includes:

NAVSUP FLEET LOGISTICS CENTER OPERATIONS

• Efficiently led a diverse team of 24 military and civilian personnel in a safe and successful delivery execution of command parts and materials with zero mishaps and 100% accountability.

• Supervised 19 military, United States Civilian Service (USCS) and foreign national personnel in the processing of 1.2M pounds of mail.

• Revitalized command physical readiness training program, leading to Personnel Fitness Assessment (PFA) 100% passing of all department personnel.

• Serve as main point of contact with customers' and resolve all customer service complaints.

• Maintaining knowledge of all warehouse operations procedures to ensure compliance, accuracy, and completeness with standard operating procedures; financial, legal, security, audit requirements and customer specifications.
