To whom it may concern,
As a Hope College student graduating in December, I have had the good fortune to study Psychology in a wholistic context. The job posting on your website peaked my interest, and you will find a copy of my résumé in my application. I grew up in Dexter, MI, and I enjoy the environment that Ann Arbor offers.
Over the past few years, I have experienced a broad range of opportunities. As a Resident Assistant at Hope college, I oversaw the success of 70 young men trying to thrive in a college environment. I worked alongside Professional Staff and other Resident Assistants from the college, and learned that it takes a dedicated team to help others grow as well as what it takes to be an effective member of that team. During my time at Hope College, I also held several Research Assistant positions in the Psychology Department. These positions enabled me to further both my professional development as well as my understanding of empirical research. These research opportunities allowed me to get hands-on experience in behavioral, emotional, cognitive and trauma-related psychology as well as psychoacoustics. The combination of my research positions and my experience as a Resident Assistant prompted me to pursue employment in social careers that work with people, and helping people.
I look forward to using the skills and knowledge gained from my experiences to contribute to the success of the Metropolitan Services. I will follow up with you in two weeks to see where the application process stands and see if you need any other information from me. Thank you for your time and consideration for this position. Sincerely,
Andrew Shay
