Assigned to a team to specify, design, purchase, construct and operate a $250 million Pulp Mill utilizing state of the art, world class, operating equipment never before configured in the industry. Equipment vendor selection required multiple trips to locations in the US and Europe.

Managed operations, scheduled routine and annual maintenance for a department of 58 hourly employees as well as 7 salaried foremen for this $25 million operating unit. Other duties included vendor selection for specialty chemical purchases, field trials, submission and justification of capital projects for environmental, quality or operating and labor cost savings.

Served as a startup management supervisor for two major capital project process launches.

Initiated multiple process improvement projects yielding $5 million in annual cost savings.

Promoted to management & transferred to Corporate headquarters in Greenville, SC for 18 months as a trainee. Responsibilities included corporate field assistance for capital project justification requiring travel to company locations in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and SC.

Process Engineer

Designed and field tested new manufacturing production line. Process development included lab testing, pilot plant process verification in vendor’s facility in OH, writing operating manuals & startup.

Supervised quality field testing team through process sampling for proposed modifications in Grand Prairie, Alberta and Foley, FL facilities.

Selected as a supervisor for a 12-month long production startup team for a new $240 million facility in Oglethorpe, GA. First saleable product made on my shift Christmas Eve, 1980 which was required for the company to receive a 10% Investment Tax Credit.
