PENTELI HOSPITAL
Penteli hospital for children is the 3rd largest pediatric hospital in Athens.
It has over 200 beds of which 30 within the Children Orthopedics and Trauma Department.
There are 41 Consultants (including 3 Pediatricians), 40 SpR (20 ST3-4, 20 ST1-2) and 34 SHO (F1 and F2) in Orthopedics.
There are 4 surgical theatres,, of which one is especially for Pediatric Skeletal Surgery (equipped with portable SIEMENS SIREMOBIL 3 C-arm X-ray). Scoliosis corrective spinal surgery is a routine for especially trained teams.
During my time there I participated and performed various procedures including
Elastic Intramedullary Nailing, Locking Nailing, Leg Length Restoration, Osteotomies and Correction of Bone angulation, second to physeal injury. Minor closed procedures are a routine; most K-wire and subcutaneous pin extractions could be handled easily.
On average I did 6 elective surgeries when I am in the Clinic per week and 4 surgeries/weekly when I covered the A&E room.

Centre for Orthopedics and Traumatology is a specialized institution with over 500 beds and more than 500 outpatients per week. All major areas of Orthopedic Surgery are covered.
There are 10 surgical theatres, dedicated to the Orthopedic Surgery.
The hospital is well equipped with MRI, CT, US, digitalized X-ray, clinical laboratory and pathological department.
Arthroscopic procedures, Joint Replacement surgeries and Spinal Surgery are a routine for especially trained teams.
My duties included Theatre on a daily basis; outpatient consultation twice weekly and clinical rounds once weekly. I was on 24 hour oncall up to 4 times monthly. During my time there as a Resident in Training, I performed the following operations.

The hospital serves as a trauma centre for the region and has the 3rd highest patient count for vehicular injuries nationally Weekly schedule included outpatient clinic 3 times/week, theatre 3 times/week, 24 hour on call rotation up to8 times monthly, clinical rounds daily..
