Work Experience
ANGUS Chemical Company, Buffalo Grove, IL
Formulation Chemist, R&D “Automotive & Industrial coatings” May 2017 – December 2017
• Prepare waterborne latex paint formulations
• Characterize latex paint properties by viscosity, pH and solids content determinations
• Test latex paint performance by standard ASTM method by pendulum and pencil hardness, solvent resistance, early water resistance, optical properties, corrosion resistance, etc.
• Troubleshoot formulation and lab equipment problems
• Laboratory equipment maintenance
• Provide verbal updates and written scientific reports detailing experimental results and achievements
• Record observations and promptly report any abnormal observations to supervisory chemist
• Working within a strongly safety rules, GLP laboratory setting as part of several multidisciplinary team. Ecolab Company, Naperville, IL
Research Laboratory Technician, R&D Enterprise Group June 2014 – February 2017
• Ran polymerization reactions based on copolymer latexes in a specific range of molecular, particle- morphological, colloidal and physical properties. These polymers are used in a variety of applications including: mining, paper, waste water and energy.
• Executed all lab work in a safe manner, as well as clean and orderly condition. Performed additional lab responsibilities successfully and supported the project timelines and goals.
• Performed testing and analyzing the dry strength of paper including, characterization of raw materials
(pH, conductivity, consistency, titration) and paper pulps.
• Supported several projects in the Enterprise group and worked with water soluble polymer latex products and new water-soluble polymer materials. Performed characterization and testing of water soluble polymers including 30% active polymer latex and other novel water soluble polymers in paper, mining, waste water, and oil manufactory applications.
• Performed Particle size determination, Brookfield viscosity of polymers, Relative Specific Viscosity
(RSV) and Intrinsic Viscosity (IV) measurement, gel number determination and polymer latex stability tests. Assessed results based on existing specifications for the polymer properties.
• Prepared paper hand-sheets with the dry strength aids and performed complete physical analysis (dry tensile test, burst test and formation test) of paper to assess the performance for the paper manufacture. Generated test data and reported the raw data to the project leader for improving the polymer additive’s performance.
Vilnius University, Nanomaterials Chemistry
Thesis Research September 2011 - June 2013
• Supported the development of Platinized Titanium electrodes with different Nano-layers designated for the oxidation of cyanide ions via an electrochemical process. It was intended for cyanide remediation of waste water.
• Gained knowledge and expertise in the area of electrochemical deposition, surface analysis using Atomic force microscope (AFM) and Scanning electron microscope (SEM) for the thickness and morphology of the Platinum deposition on the Ti electrodes.
Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, Germany
Laboratory Assistant February 2012 - May 2012
• Conducted literature research concerning deposition processes on electrode surfaces, such as Indium Phosphide (InP) and anodically oxidized aluminum (AAO). Prepared electrochemical cells for experimentation, this included modifying aluminum electrode pores via anodization.
• Modified aluminum electrodes using anodic current and illumination. Examined effects of magnetic and electric fields on pore formation in porous AAO films. Utilized SEM to characterize the surface properties.
