I have been working as a senior resident in Delhi State Cancer Institute Delhi since March 2014
Thesis-a dosimetric comparison of HDR interstial brachytherapy boost with external beam techniques using electrons,3-DCRT and TOMOTHERAPY under the guidance of professor and director of ACTREC{advanced centre for treatment,research and education in cancer}
Learning experience-during md radiation oncology had four months rotational postings in breast cancer,neurooncolgy, head and neck cancers,gestro-intestinal cancers, lung,pedatric and bone and soft tissue cancers,and gynaecological cancers.
Additionaly had postings in pathology, nuclear medicine,radiology and chemotherapy wards
During the postings learned contouring and planning and implementation of head and neck cancers [oral cavity, oropharynx, hypopharynx and nasopharynx},contouring and planning of neurological cancers like glioblastoma, pituitary,low grade and high grade gliomas,PET-CT based planning of lung cancer as well 4-DCT planning of lung cancers,in gynaecological malignancies- contouring and planning implementation in cervical cancers,whole abdominal radiotherapy in case of ovarian cancers,
Done conventional planning for head and neck cancers based on fluoroscopy,
In brachytherapy did independent high dose rate intracavitory insertions,assisted MUPIT Brachytherapy,assisted interstial brachytherapy in breast cancers, and surfacemould planning for palate cancers.
In four months ward postings learned management of acute toxicities of radiation in head and neck, cervix rectum and anal canal cacers,application of amniotic membrane for moist desquamation[grade 3} reactions, management of late tissue toxicities like proctitis,cystitis, subacute intestinal obstruction,management of patients with metastasis and end disease in the form of supportive care,administer concurrent chemotherapy in cervical cancers,management of patients with febrile neutropenia,management of emergencies like spinal cord compression,medical decompression therapy,active bleeding in carcinoma cervix{packing}
In chemotherapy postings used BFM protocol for ALL, EMACO for choriocarcinoma, cisplatin carboplatin for ovarian cancers,DCF protocol for esophageal cancers,and capacitabine for rectal cancers,Cisplatin etopside for small cell lung cancer,and platin based chemotherapy along with use of TKI in nonsmall cell lung carcinoma,also managed chemotherapy complications in ward.
