OBJECTIVE: Seeking a research and development position for utilizing my experimental and analytical skills.

EDUCATION

M.S. Degree Chemistry San Jose State University San Jose, CA Dec’17

B.S. Degree in Organic Chemistry Punjab University, INDIA May’14

SKILLS

Exceptional knowledge in analytical techniques like NMR, FTIR, Raman, LCMS, HPLC-MS Spectroscopy, Optical-, Scanning electron microscopy/XPS, XRD, Cyclic voltammetry.

Trained in handing moisture sensitive chemical reactions, rotary evaporators, schlenk lines, vacuum distillation, vacuum filtration.

ACADEMIC PROJECTS

Graduate Research Student/MS Thesis Project

Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Electrode/Electrolyte Materials for a Hybrid Supercapacitor (SC)

Researched, proposed and developed electrode/electrolyte materials for their application in a hybrid supercapacitor.

Functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) via ozonolysis, Diels-Alder reaction and acid treatment. The functionalized CNTs were characterized using Raman and FTIR spectroscopy.

Synthesized a redox-additive gel polymer electrolyte and purified the product with multiple purification techniques.

Analyzed the chemical composition of the products and by-products from chemical synthesis using NMR, Raman and FTIR spectroscopy

Functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with the polymer and characterized the composite using Raman, FTIR spectroscopy and gas chromatography (GC).

Performed physical characterization of the synthesized carbon nanotubes/polymer composites using SEM.

Performed electrochemical testing of the synthesized materials using Cyclic Voltammetry (micro + ultramicroeletcrodes, both in solid and liquid phase) and Chronoamperometry.

Obtained good ionic and electronic conductivity from the synthesized materials.

Collaborated with a fellow lab member and fabricated a prototype cell successfully and analyzed its rechargeability and charge/discharge currents using CV and Chronoamperometry.

Presented the research results at the 29th American Chemical Society (ACS) annual research symposium held at SJSU.

Ordered laboratory supplies and trained undergraduate students to manage chemical waste disposal and chemical inventory.

Analysis of Organic Compounds using Agilent 6520 QTOF MS and HPLC-MS, SJSU-Spring 2016:

Organized and conducted an independent research project to develop reliable HPLC-MS/MS methods (both ANP and RP modes) for the simultaneous analysis of different organic molecules.

Prepared stock solutions, mobile phase solutions, and buffer solutions of different concentrations.

Utilized Agilent software, and Excel for the data analysis

Scanning Electron Microscopy/Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis, SJSU-Fall 2016:

Collaborated with fellow group members to study the effect of parameters like voltage, spot size, working distance etc., on the quality of SEM images, utilizing both secondary and backscattered electron detectors.

Energy-dispersive spectroscopy was performed to understand the effects of dead time and live time on the number of characteristic X-rays detected per second. Their effects on peak intensity and resolution was also analyzed.

Prepared/Polished the metal alloy samples before their analysis.

Determined the elemental composition of several metal alloys and carried out the quantitative analysis using EDX.

Determined the diffusion properties of metals present in different samples.

Produced detailed lab reports explaining the results of investigation and presented the findings in 30- minute live PowerPoint presentation to a class of 25 peers.

X-ray Powder Diffraction Analysis, SJSU-Spring 2017:

Collaborated with fellow group members and determined the lattice parameters of various salts and metal alloys using Rigaku Ultima II diffractometer.

Calibrated the X-ray diffractometer and followed the standard operating procedure and safety instructions for operating the instrument.

Prepared the samples by grinding and crushing the ore samples to get homogenous mixtures

Calculated the absorption, displacement and flat specimen errors using MS Excel.

Prepared electronic lab reports to record and manipulate data.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Chemistry Instructor, CS Institute, Chandigarh, India Jan’12-May’14

Responsibilities:

Instructed undergraduate students in chemistry in preparation for internal and external examinations.

Lectured a variety of lower- and upper division courses in Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, General Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Prepared class materials and administered quizzes and examinations concerning techniques and content.

Utilized audio visual techniques such as PowerPoint, classroom projection systems to enhance learning.

Fostered soft skills development, critical thinking skills and helped students attain better grades.

ACTIVITIES:

Member of National service scheme, India Jan’12 - Aug’14

Volunteered for Rotary club, India Aug’11 - May’12
