Ian’s experience extends across several functional areas including Health, Safety, Environment (HSE); Risk Management; Business Improvement; Compliance Assurance; Projects; and Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A). He has worked globally across several industries in over 20 countries among others the USA, Canada, Finland, Caribbean, Chile, Peru, Brazil, Australia and several in west, east and southern Africa. Through a divers sectorial exposure Ian has developed a sound foundation and strategic appreciation for risk and operational management, HSE management, and program execution across the value chain. Sectoral exposure has included the extractive industry (including mining, minerals processing, oil and gas) as well as the power sector, telecommunications, heavy industry and manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals sector.

Ian has developed managerial and leadership skills throughout his career. Prior to joining Anglo American, Ian held the position of Managing Partner for Environmental Resources Management (ERM) Southern Africa’s Inland Business Unit, where he was responsible for establishing the business unit and leading its growth, managing the budget formulation, order book, operational performance and human resources. His responsibility extended to Key Client Management for multinational clients; assisting them with the development and roll-out of various risk, safety and sustainable development and business excellence programs. Clients included but were not limited to Anglo American and its business units (including De Beers), Chevron, BP, Xstrata, Vedanta, Ethos Private Equity, and Diageo. Ian’s current position in Anglo American as Principal Specialist: Operational Risk Management (Operational Risk Management) has focused on leading the Operational Risk Management (ORM) Program for the Group. Key focus areas include:

Process design and integration of ORM as a key element within functional disciplines and business processes amongst others the Integrated Risk Management Framework, Operating Model, incident investigation, projects process and business performance scorecard program. In addition to process, method and tool design there has been significant enhancement of cross functional application and management routine enhancement through performance monitoring.

Supporting various aspect of Business Improvement operational model work being undertaken including integration of ORM process and tools into BI capacity building and support to BI implementation initiatives covering Operational Planning, Work Management and Measures. Recent work has included direct support to OM rollout as Mogalakwena, Sishen, Iron Ore Brazil and Los Bronces.

and delivery of operational execution support. This included the transitioning of the A series from theory to execution process, method and tools; and design and launch of Bowtie Analysis e-learning in the Group.

Support to value critical projects, examples which include: o Support to next technology projects from an operational risk perspective to design out risk and improve effectiveness when released into operations. o Facilitating optimization support to of operational processes using ORM tools which have delivered more than US$100 million in annual revenue increase and cash flow savings across the business. (e.g.: RBMR cathode stripper, Minas Rio Ramp-up risk management, and tire pyrolysis management)

o Supporting management of the major risks at operations with functional risk owners through focused control strategy design, improved operational executions and critical control monitoring practices to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of risk management strategies and systems.

Leading the successful development of an ORM IT Platform to date has been core to the management of operational risk data and information for decision support at various operational Levels of Work.

In addition to the ORM responsibilities involvement with the Group Learning from Incidents (LFI) process has been significant. This included supporting integration and alignment of the LFI process with ORM as well as facilitation and support to several incident investigations. These have included fatal investigations (Thermal Coal and Corporate Services) and investigations into High Potential Incidents

(RBMR Hydrogen peroxide explosion, De Beers Pacific fire).

Managerial responsibilities included ORM program oversight and management of the ORM team members, ORM budget, Transport Safety budget (2011 – 2013) and “A” Training Program budget. The inland business was built from 6 staff to include approximately 70 staff located across ERM’s Johannesburg and Pretoria offices. Technical and managerial responsibility extended to the management of the Corporate Risk Team which comprised the Performance and Assurance, Health and Safety, Technical Risk (including process safety practice) and Transaction

(M&A) Services practices for ERM Southern Africa which had jurisdiction in sub- Sahara Africa for the ERM Group. At various stages oversight was also extended to the Sustainability and Climate Change and Impact Assessment and Planning practices.
