Objective:
I am a dedicated and hard-working individual seeking a position of Entry Level Engineer
As a devoted mechanical engineering student at Lawrence Technological University, I have completed many related courses. In addition to my regular course work, I am also a member of the SAE team, through which I have gained some significant real-world experience in design and engineering principles. My particular interests are in the field of engineering, especially in the automotive industry. I have proven my abilities through LTU Baja SAE Team’s innovation, development, entrepreneurship, and field tests of an off-road vehicle designed and implemented by the SAE Baja team.
Education background:
Lawrence Technological University, Southfield, MI (graduated in Dec 2016)
Major in Mechanical Engineering.
●Relevant Coursework: Mechanical Eng. Graphics, Engineering Materials, Engineering Cost Analysis, Mechatronics, Thermodynamics, Dynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Internal Combustion Engine, Vehicle Dynamics, Energy Resources and Tech.
Shanghai University of Engineering Science (2011-2013)
Major in Automotive Engineering
●Coursework includes: Chemistry, Physics, Theoretical Mechanics, Modern Engineering Drafting, MATLAB, and Introduction to Machine Control Theory
Project Experience:
2016 LTU Baja SAE Team Senior Project - Safety Leader
Baja SAE is a U.S. based, globally intercollegiate design competition run by SAE (Society of Automotive Engineer). SAE devotes resources to projects and programs in STEM education professional certification, and collegiate design competitions.
I was a member of Baja SAE in the campus as a college student during the year 2015-2016 as the design lead for safety and chassis, and responsibly for designing and fabricating the chassis, body panels, safety equipment including seat, kill switch, and lights. I also cooperated with teammates to build the CVT parts.
As I am enrolled in a smaller university, the team has to make the best use of what we have access to
Support from GM Tech Center in Warren, and their generous technical help.
Smaller team with direct communication to each other.
Helpful fabrication team ( fab lab inside Lawrence Tech ).
New chassis design
The new chassis was designed with the consideration of proper ergonomics, such as the center gravity of car, the body ration of driver, the position of pedals, the position of steering wheel and seat, and legroom. Compared to previous design of chassis, the rear package was improved in efficiency, and driving position was lowered with better usage of interior volume, lowering the center of gravity at the same time.
The new fiberglass seat
Seat was designed on computer mold with CNC machined, and final product was altered by hands with power tools in the fabrication lab. The new seat is more sufficiently comfortable as to prevent driver fatigue during the endurance events and long testing sessions.
Solid works and AutoCAD drawing of related components
(FEA) Simulation of components and structures
Design cockpit and improve ergonomics for driving
Despite the emphasis on the off-road performacne, while driving comfort shouldn’t be compromised. It should be sufficiently comfortable as to prevent driver fatigue during the endurance events and long testing sessions. The new cockpit gave driver 2 inches more legroom, 3 inches wider shoulder room, and 1.5 inches lower driving position. Overall, the interior volume increased 7%, compared to previous year. As a result, 95th percentile driver fits comfortably in the vehicle while still meeting specific competition rules.
