Evaluation of Mechanical Properties of Al 2024 based of Hybrid Metal Matrix Composites

• Produced Hybrid Composite by heating Al 2024 in electrical resistance furnace at a temperature of 700 C.

• Casted the hybrid composite by incorporating E Glass fiber & fly ash to the molten metal with varying weight fractions in Al 2024.

• Machined the cast specimen as per ASTM E8-82 standards using CNC Lathe and performed tension & compression test.

• Analyzed and compared the results of various weight fractions of composites specimens by the above tests. Design of a spring plate for a power system

• Selected SAE 6150 alloy steel as a suitable material for the spring plate and performed the design analysis based on Rankine’s Normal Stress Theory for given loading conditions.

• Modelled and compared various designs for the spring plate by optimizing the parameters for given loading conditions using Catia v5 and performed stress analysis using Ansys v10. Steady state cornering performance of a vehicle

• Determined the steady state equilibrium conditions for lateral acceleration ranging from 0.1 to 0.5 g’s by finding the vertical forces, vehicle roll angle, front axle slip angle, rear axle slip angle at each ‘g’ level.

• Evaluated the performance using Excel Solver and determined the understeer gradient by plotting graphs as a function of lateral acceleration.
