Computer Science Senior Thesis Union College September 2012-March 2013 Thesis: Translating Cellular Automata into music, to determine if the results are conventionally musical. The temporal nature of CAs and their complex patterns make them susceptible to musical notation. I wrote modules to translate from visual to the auditory, exploring CA programs such as Golly and researching CA rules that would be appropriate for musical output. For this project, I created a script in Perl that translated the system we created in CA form into a midi file. We made sure to make a system that could be easily modifiable to add features as we saw fit, this created a system that had the capability of producing many sounds that a human being is capable of. Research with Math Department at Union College June 2011-September 2012 Research A ssistant

* Researched better ways to remove artifacts from ultrasound images for the purposes of improving cancer diagnoses.

* Used Matlab to implement the equations we were deriving. Examined many algorithms and tested them for errors, space complexity/quickness, and their usefulness for our purposes. Also used research to find better algorithms for denoising images. Relevant Skills
