PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Advanced Containment Systems March 2017 to Present Welding Engineer/lead Quality Auditor for a manufacturer of military containment systems used for rapid deployment of expeditionary equipment and mobile warehousing of materials, equipment, weapons, communications/command centers and maintenance packages. AWS Welding Codes are used to fabricate ABS-certified container and storage modules manufactured in accordance with an ISO 9001 registered quality management system. Metallurgist/Welding Engineer, on the Sasol Ethylene Cracker Mega Project – representing Sasol to ensure suitable material selection and application of welding, NDT, coating and inspection technology for a petro-chem complex. Prior to January 2015, Mr. Sprague performed a similar role with the Engineering contractor for the ExxonMobil Hebron topsides project. The role includes support for piping, mechanical, structural and quality engineering teams on welding and materials, including review and approval of engineering contractor and supplier documents. Both roles included quality audits of supplier facilities and liaison with the quality team to resolve nonconformance and quality issues related to design and manufacture of engineered equipment.

Chevron Feb 2012 to June 2012

QA Manager for a brownfield offshore platform project; managing an integrated quality team for an EPC contract for multiple platform modifications to reduce flare gas. The assignment includes managing project QA during engineering, procurement and fabrication, including review and approval of contractor welding and NDT documents. Senior Quality Management Engineer, assigned to improve GoM service contractor quality at the district level. This assignment involves quality audits and implementation of quality plans to facilitate quality improvement. Evaluation of NPT data and failure investigations were used to facilitate performance improvement. Primary responsibility included Halliburton completions equipment and services for deepwater GoM.

Shell Libya Sept 2009 to Feb 2011

Quality Assurance Lead for HPHT and MPD Desert Drilling Operations. The role involved preparation and execution of Campaign quality plans and contractor quality plans for long-lead procurement, rental equipment and drilling services. A robust contractor audit program was implemented to verify compliance to ISO 9001 requirements and contractor quality management systems. Direct supervision of well control, drilling and completions equipment inspection and operations at rigsite.

BHP Billiton Petroleum September 2007 to September 2009 Quality Assurance Manager for Global Drilling operations. The position includes managing an internal, ISO 9001-based quality management system, managing the QA/QC process for procurement and rental of drilling and completions equipment, and managing an aggressive contractor quality audit and performance improvement program to support deepwater GoM drilling operations. Contractor manufacturing/shore base quality data, along with rig NPT data was used to improve equipment performance and reduce rig NPT. Conducted DWOP and CWOP exercises with drilling/completions teams and contractors. BP America Production Company August 2005 to September 2007 Quality Assurance Lead for GoM Deepwater drilling including exploration, field development and production business units. The position included responsibility for quality across multi- discipline teams, including drilling, operations, major projects and pipelines, with a primary focus on D&C. The position included preparing, implementing and managing an ISO 9001- based quality management system; providing QA and technical support to D&C teams; conducting failure analysis; and supervising eight direct subordinates supported by a team of 50 to 55 inspectors.

Project Quality Assurance Manager, Mardi Gras Transportation System Project – pipelines and related equipment for deep water, Gulf of Mexico installation. Provide materials and welding engineering support to the Technology Development Group for pipeline design and procurement of line pipe, subsea ball valves, pipeline end terminations (PLETs), subsea connectors, quad jointing and fabrication, as well as liaison on installation welding activities. The position also included performing supplier quality audits in Mexico, India and Argentina. An ISO 9001-based quality management system was prepared and utilized for project activities. Metallurgist/Quality Manager for the corporate Engineering & Technology Group, consulting with both upstream and downstream project teams on equipment failures, quality assurance, welding and materials issues. Project assignments included the following:

• Nautilus Pipeline Project, Garden City, LA - Metallurgist and Quality Assurance Manager for the construction of a gas processing plant, including gas metering and liquid separation facilities, as well as a 5,000 bbl harp-type slug catcher.

• Marathon Refinery, New Orleans, LA – Metallurgist and Quality Assurance Manager for the Propylene Project and the Delayed Coker Project. During EPC activities, the assignment included verification of engineering contractor material selection and application of welding technology.

Metallurgical Consultants, Inc. 1992 to 1997 and 1981 to 1984 Metallurgist - providing metallurgical and welding engineering support to the major oil and gas companies in the construction of pipelines and related facilities, including the preparation of pipeline welding procedure specifications and supervision of field construction. Mastery metallurgical skills were developed by performing a wide variety of material studies and metallurgical failure analysis involving the corrosion and failure of piping, welds, pressure vessels, heat exchangers and rotating equipment.

Dril-Quip, Inc. 1988 to 1992

Quality Systems Manager and Metallurgical/Welding Engineer – providing management and technical support for an international subsea wellhead manufacturer. Responsibilities included authorship, implementation, registration and management of the company’s ISO 9001 quality management system. The role also provided engineering support for material selection and welding technology, as well as technical support to manufacturing for materials research and qualification testing.
