Providing outreach services for the hospice community and their families by addressing their healthcare and spiritual needs of over 50 admitted patients.

Facilitator for the bereavement group at the First Congregational Church of San Jose. As an assistant to the bereavement coordinator I make phone calls to notify bereaved family members of the availability of personalized counselling and offer membership at the bereavement group.

Admin tasks: Expedited patient record maintenance and turnover to the hospice patient directory by 90%. Conducted data checks on patient records and volunteer visit records and enabled their reporting and entry into the Heartland Hospice Database.

NEW YORK STATE OFFICE OF MENTAL HEALTH Feb ‘17 to May ‘17

Data Analyst Intern

Key Accomplishments:

Conducted a literature review outlining the epidemiology and impact of antipsychotic polypharmacy(APP) in children. Provided assistance on the quality improvement project used to track the project’s progress.

Performed comprehensive study and quality checks on new procedures/policies. Utilized SAS 9.4 to create a report outlining the prevalence and predictors of APP among children in the New York State Medicaid mental health population using PSYCKES Medicaid data.

Results: It was hence determined that these factors are linked to increased odds of APP use: Age 14-17 years, Females, Asian race; Hispanics (Adjusted OR); Patients with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia/schizoaffective disorders; drug resistance and longer periods of hospitalization.

Data Analyst Intern

Key Accomplishments:

Monitored study developments on an ongoing basis, and proposed and implemented changes as needed. Supported the development of evaluation designs, selection of appropriate data analysis methodologies (SAS, Tableau, SQL and Macro Processors), and project management of the Home and Community Based Service (HCBS) waiver program.

Results: Some of the factors that determined higher need for mental health rehabilitation were: individuals displaying aggressive or violent behavior, those who are in the recovering from substance abuse and those who exhibit poor decision making and intentional misbehavior.

Summer Intern

Key Accomplishments:

Executed data analysis and database management of asthma-related data on prevalence (BRFSS, Medicaid, and Child Health Plus), emergency department visits, hospitalizations, vital records), healthcare services, quality measures and expenditures using SAS 9.4 including the built-in SQL, Macro processors and Microsoft Excel.

Aided the ACP Staff in school and home-based program evaluation projects which involved developing program evaluation questions, creating school based ACP individual evaluation plans, program planning logic models, collecting data, analyzing and reporting on CDC based asthma control performance measures, summarizing results, as well as developing reports and presentations.

Results: As the ACP was in the initial stages of implementation, I Found a minor but significant prevalence in improvement in asthma symptoms and adherence to long term asthma medication preprogram vs post program among children who regularly attended School Based ACPs. Improvement of outcomes could be better evaluated with greater student participation.

BUREAU OF WATER SUPPLY PROTECTION, NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH,(NYSDOH) Feb’16 to Apr’16

Project Assistant

Key Accomplishments:

Performed a comprehensive study and quality checks on new procedures/policies, led study reviews, generated and compiled medical records as a part of the Harmful Algal Bloom(HAB) Surveillance System. Evaluated and analyzed projects of hospital visits in the New York state with reported exposure to HABs, including reviewing of medical records, extracting data, and conducting data analyses using SAS.

Communicated with the project managers and epidemiologists, coordinating the benefits of the current program. Participated in DOH meetings and work groups related to Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) and other waterborne diseases.

Results: HABs exposure brings about a wide range of symptoms that are observed in infectious diseases as well as allergic reactions namely: gastrointestinal disturbances, breathing difficulties and skin irritation. Hence the number of cases of HAB exposure went under-reported.
