PROJECT EXPERIENCE:
Excellus BCBS – Team Manager and Program Manager – January 2012 to Present
Managed a high-performing team of 9 individuals and worked with business units and IT to deliver Document Composition and Print projects. Apart from project delivery, responsibilities included hiring, building employee development plans and performance appraisals. Some of the successful projects delivered were:
Subscriber Contracts and Benefit Summaries – Complex applications with hundreds of business rules, built using Tango to generate mandated Health Care Reform documents for subscribers.
Electronic Document Delivery and ID Cards for Mobile Platforms – Used HP Command Center, HP Exstream and HP Delivery Manager to generate and deliver electronic or print versions of documents to customers based on their preferences. Used Elixir’s Tango to generate customer ID Cards for retrieval and viewing on mobile platforms.
Workflow Integration/Migration/Optimization – Used HP Command Center to migrate jobs off the mainframe to Unix servers and to integrate diverse scripts and steps into unified job flows. Saved Excellus $ 50,000 in mainframe annual licensing fees.
RFP preparation and Vendor selection – Worked on preparing an RFP to bring claims and document scanning operations in-house. Scope included scanning and workflow software selection, vendor selection for design, development and disaster recovery and preparation of a 3-year financial plan.
Excellus BCBS – Project Manager – June 2008 to December 2011
Worked with onsite and offsite teams and vendors to deploy a diverse set of projects on multiple Excellus platforms. Some of the critical projects were:
Plastic ID Cards Vendor Change – Worked with Document Services, Membership and vendors to deploy the Tango-based IDCMS application and bring ID Card generation and printing in-house to Excellus. Received Excellus’ highest Executive Award for my work on this project.
Planview Upgrade – Worked with the vendor Planview and a large set of stakeholders to roll out Planview Version 10 across the entire enterprise.
East Indemnity Conversion – This project involved moving nearly 60,000 subscribers and their complex benefit plans from one mainframe application to standard benefit plans on another. I was on the Top IT Performers list for 2 consecutive quarters for my work on this project.
Blue on Demand – Worked with vendors and Marketing to deploy a web-based application that assisted brokers in offering multiple health benefit plans to their clients.
Citigroup Student Loan Corporation - Sr. Project Manager – June 2001 to May 2008
Managed projects of varied sizes across diverse technical platforms. All projects installed on schedule with minimal issues. Some of the key projects were:
Problem Management - Used Six Sigma methodology and problem-solving approaches such as brainstorming and flowcharting to carry out root-cause analysis for technical Production issues for the Citigroup High Availability team.
Originations (Loan Servicing Component) – An extra-large project involved extensive enhancements to the mainframe-based Loan Servicing system to allow it to process transactions from a new Unix-VB Originations application. Received the company’s Quality Excellence award for my work on this project.
Deficit Reduction Act – An extremely fast-track project that required implementing extensive regulatory requirements and new products in response to those regulations in a short span of 5 months.
Health and Law Websites – Fast-track project for the Product Management and E-commerce groups which involved implementing two new websites that targeted Health and Law post-graduate students. Business sponsor nominated the team for a Formal Team Award.
E-lender Enhancements – Series of projects for the E-commerce group and involved co-ordination with an external vendor to enhance the CollegeLenderList.com website.

Project Management assignments requiring management of developers and external software vendors to enhance an Intranet application and a client-server Freight Payment application.
Responsibilities included managing the analysis and development of a generic XML-based EDI translator and designing, data-modeling and implementing an Oracle-Delphi solution for payment of Freight invoices.
Y2K Analysis and Conversions – Project Manager – February 1997 to July 1999

Multiple Y2K-related Analysis and Conversion projects. Significant Project Management achievements were:
Analyzed more than 150 RG&E multi-platform applications for Y2K impact.
Managed a multi-site team with an onsite component consisting of employees and contractors and an offshore component of more than 40 programmers to convert 5 mission-critical applications for Xerox Corporation’s Integrated Supply Chain Group. The applications consisted of more than 800 Cobol programs which had to be analyzed, conversion effort estimated and costs and schedules managed to fit Xerox business needs. All applications were converted on schedule and within budget.
Analyzed and certified Xerox Corporation’s client-server applications and vendor software for Y2K compliance.
Managed the conversion and enhancement of Phillip Morris International’s Strategic Planning application to a Y2K-compliant version of Visual Basic.
Program Management and Account Management – October 1994 to December 1996
GE Plastics

Managed the entire GE Plastics outsourcing program for TCS, including business development and management of projects at GE Plastics plants in USA, Europe and Asia.
Responsible for negotiating the scope and schedules of projects with senior GE Plastics managers including the CIO, estimating project effort, managing the onsite/offshore development teams and controlling costs.
Successfully delivered 15 turnkey projects, which had a combined effort exceeding 65 person years.
