DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide Cardiovascular, Neurological and Pulmonary Assessment of Patient
A.
Utilizes Parameters in the Delivery of the Plan of Care

Monitor vital signs ever hour of as necessary (Ex. BP,CVP,HR) Swan/Ganz
2
Initiates and maintains cardiac monitoring
3
Take regular 12 lead E.C.G.
4
Check the potency and drainage of chest tubes every hour of as indicated.
5
Gives intravenous emergency medication as ordered.
6
Initiates and maintains cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
7
Performs emergency cardio version and defibrillation as order.

Has basic knowledge of E.C.G. and basic arythamias
9
Assist basic knowledge of E.C.G. and basic arythamias

Assist during cut down, insertion of CVP, Arterial line, Chest tube,Swan Ganz catheter and
temporary pacemaker
11
Monitors patients with temporary and permanent pacemakers.

Check neurological status of patients (level of consciousness,papillary reaction,
reflexes and temperature)

Monitor patients in peritoneal dialysis and hemofiltration.

Act aspreceptor in the orientation programmed for new staff and learners

Prepares, calculates and administers emergency cardiac drugs.

Assist the patient with hygienic measures or giving bath required.

Assist during dressing of wound, bedsores and liaises with physicians order and plan of care.

Initiate CPR during cardiopulmonary arrest.

Collect blood samples necessary for blood investigation.

Provide a high standard of care to the patient undergoing insertion of invasive illness
and undergoing procedures Eg. Central venous catheters,pacing wiresand elective DC
cardio version.

Provides specialist-nursing skills Eg. Litration of medication in response to the patientcondition
utilizing clinical judgment and ward protocols.

To undertake diagnostic tests and act appropriately upon the information gained
E.g. 12 lead ECG interpretation.
