Clinical Experience:

Volunteered at Berkshire Dentistry interacted with patients while Shadowed Dr. Grewal and Dr. Chehayeb for a total of 20 hours in the fall of 2015. Comforted nervous patients and listened to doctors explain specific dental strategies for given patient. Thus far have witnessed crown repairing, removal of amalgam fillings, extractions, bridge insertions, dental impressions, and filling repair.

Volunteered at Desert Dentistry while shadowing Dr. Ahmed Collins approximately 10 hours during the summer of 2014. Interacted with patients, learned how to sterilize instruments. Witnessed the Doctor to patient relationship while shadowing Dr. Ahmed and his assistants.

Volunteered at DC Surgical Arts center for oral and facial surgery from February 2016- present. Observed facial and oral surgeries performed by Dr. Niven Tien.

Participated in Mayo Physicians of Tomorrow program in Rochester Minnesota during June of 2015. Participated in weeklong program attending daily professionalism workshops, and participated in a suture clinic. Shadowed Dermatologist Dr. Dawn Marie R. Davis for 5 hours. Shadowed Plastic Surgeon Dr. Nho Tran for 5 hours. Toured around the Mayo Hospital campus in Rochester Minnesota and mingled with medical school executive board members.

Research Experience:

Translational Genomic Research Institute (TGen) Intern, Phoenix Arizona

Summer May-July 2013

Scribed for TGen’s Deputy Director of Basic Science Dr. John Carpten in areas such as western blot assay and preformed the following assays/experiments; Gel creation and Gel Electrophoresis Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), DNA/RNA extraction via QIGEN AllPrep Kit, PCR primer design, Nano Drop Analysis, Reverse transcribed polymerase chain reaction (RT- PCR).

Worked on two projects with two of Dr. Carpten’s assistants, Irene Cherni and Troy McEahron. Learned about gene translocation identification through BLAST program with Irene Cherni while running assays beside her. Learned about Ewing Sarcoma identification within cell lines with Troy McEachron while shadowing his various assays, as well as perform assays to test his pathology thesis about a Neuroblastoma tumor within a patient.

Presented a research poster on Translocation Validation in Ewing’s Sarcoma cell lines and Primary Neuroblastoma Tumor in TGen companywide symposium.

Harvard’s Kidney Medicine Research Program Intern, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center May-July 2014

Worked with Dr. Samir Parikh and Mei Tran on a Sepsis-induced Chronic Kidney Disease study. Main responsibilities included mice genotyping, keeping detailed notes on each subject, assisting in tissue culture procedures, and assisting in ischemia reperfusion and cecal ligation puncture surgeries on mice. Learned how to perform rNA isolation and cDNA assays. Traveled with Harvard’s Kidney Medicine Research Team and Presented and poster displayed research findings to the nephrologists of Vanderbilt University in Nashville Tennessee.

American University Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program

August 2015- May 2017

Founding president of the American University Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program. Program that strives to provide health screenings centered on kidney function to underserved communities in the District of Columbia. Responsible for overseeing all committees and maintain relationship with mentor nephrologist Samir Patel. Also holds responsibility in reporting all screening information to Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program founder LiLi Hsiao of Brigham Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Boston Massachusetts.

Work Experience

National Air and Space Museum Explainer

August 2013-Present

Works in the youth centered "How Things Fly Gallery". Engage National Air and Space Museum visitors to learn about the physics involved with airplane flight. Give 30 minute shows that aim to bring complex principles into laymen's terms, and also work smaller exhibits throughout the museum that aim to engage and provoke museum visitors to think "outside the box" when it comes to different things about space.
