To Whom It May Concern,
I am interested in a position with your organization as I have five years of experience working as a geologist and my MS in Hydrogeology. Most recently, I was a 40-Hr HAZWOPER, first aid, and CPR certified field scientist and hydrogeologist. I also have experience as a MODFLOW modeler, college geology teacher, and oil field geologist. I have experience with calculating slope stability manually and with SVSlope. I have my MS in hydrogeology with a 3.8 GPA, my BS in geology, and my AS in math/physics. I am a member of the Phi Kappa Phi national honor society as part of the top 10% of graduate students nationwide. I was the 2010 Mineral and Gem Society Scholarship award winner. I spent a decade with the Boy Scouts of America.
I have taken seven 200-level graduate courses in geology. That is the equivalent to 2.3 MS degrees. My course load and thesis research focused on the environmental remediation of contaminated groundwater. My thesis research has made me very knowledgeable in the area of computer modeling of groundwater systems with MODFLOW. My thesis project tests how the spatial distribution of submarine groundwater discharge is effected by a super-K zone by creating a computer model of a coastal aquifer utilizing MODFLOW, CFP, and SEAWAT. The model was calibrated to seepage rate measurements and a radon isotope level data set collected by my advisor during her participation in an IAEA-UNESCO exercise. As CFP is relatively new and untested, I utilized my computer science background to analyze the performance of this program.
I can create computer models of groundwater systems for your company using MODFLOW for the purpose of creating predictive models that can assess the extent of contamination plumes, rates of expansion, and analyze the timeframes associated with varying pump rates and remediation processes. Data can be varied by multipliers in order to analyze how variations will affect the system. I have experience working with EPA regulations such as RCRA and CERCLA.
I was a hydrogeologist with Stetson Water Resource Engineers. As my research has made very experienced with MODFLOW modeling, I was brought on to build several models. I utilized GIS files to upload the elevational data. Well log data bases were analyzed to map the subsurface lithology. Well tests were conducted in order to calculate the hydraulic conductivity, storativity, and transmissivity. Precipitation, evaporation, and transpiration rates were accounted for in the recharge package. Stream packages were added to account for flow and deep percolation. I worked closely with the United States Geological Survey, Department of Water Resources, and industrial scale groundwater users such as farmers and cities.
I spent two years teaching geology at San Jose State University. I began each class with a PowerPoint presentation. As many of my students were foreign, I utilized graphic based presentations with animations that clearly depicted the geologic principles. I assisted students with laboratory exercises, graded all assignments, and maintained the official class website.
As an oil field geologist, my company was subcontracted by Chevron, BP, etc. to analyze the geologic materials we were drilling through. I worked on site at drill locations throughout California where I performed sedimentary analysis. Our targets were the Monterey Shale and Temblor Sandstone. I spent my free time reading USGS publications on the geology of the Franciscan and San Joaquin Formations.
Most recently, I was a 40-hour HAZWOPER, first aid, and CPR certified field scientist and hydrogeologist working at Innovex Environmental Management Inc. I was the assistant to Ron Chinn (CEO and PE) and Tom Sparrowe (PG). I assisted with tasks associated with field site management of gas stations and waste disposal facilities being remediated with ozone sparges and dual-phase extraction. My duties included collecting water and soil samples, shipping samples under COC protocols, performing sedimentary analysis for new wells and soil borings, constructing groundwater and contamination plume isotherms, permitting for well construction, USA markings, and hazardous waste disposal.
My experiences as a Boy Scout, a hydrogeologist, a college teacher, an oil field geologist, and a graduate student have been very valuable as I now have a lifetime of experience in team work, leadership, hard work, and scientific analysis. As a member of your organization, I can ensure you that my work ethic, professional demeanor, and applied scientific methodologies will be honed, sharp, experienced, and focused.
Best Regards,
Eric P. Johnson
