Dec 2015 – Oct 2017 Free Malaysia Today, Malaysia Senior Journalist / Assistant Chief Reporter
http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/author/nawar/ In just under a year at Free Malaysia Today – one of the only two leading independent news portals in Malaysia – I was promoted to the post of senior journalist and assistant chief reporter. My post required me to among others, edit other journalists’ copies before they were handed over to the sub-editors for the final editing process. I managed to arrange and conduct not just one, but two exclusive interviews with the former and longest-serving Malaysian prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad. I also exclusively interviewed many other Malaysian political personalities, such as Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and renowned social activists. In 2016, I led a team of 7 journalists which provided a month-long coverage of Sarawak state election.
Sept 2014 – Dec 2015 The Rakyat Post, Malaysia
Journalist
www.therakyatpost.com/author/nawar/
Here I focused mostly on politics and human interest stories, specializing in breaking news. These included covering two by- elections, parliament sittings and debates, among other things. I had also led a team of 5 journalists for the on-the-ground coverage of Malaysia’s biggest rally, Bersih 4.0, which called for fair and clean elections.
