Rotations focusing on experience in multi-disciplinary settings including Geriatric Clinic (GC), Home-Based Primary Care (HBPC), and Outpatient Mental Health (OMH), as well as one rotation in at the Community Living Center (CLC), working with adult Veterans in hospice or palliative care.

GC and OMH duties included completing functional assessment and intake, risk assessment, and collaborative treatment planning and referral to appropriate level of care. Interventions appropriate to OMH included co-facilitation and screening for coping skills group. Individual treatment involved brief protocols in sub-threshold to mild anxiety, trauma, and depression symptoms. Cognitive assessments were completed with geriatric Veteran’s to assist PACT team in treatment needs.

HBPC experience focused on increasing interactions with Veterans exhibiting more severe cognitive, physical, or psychological impairment. Completed intakes and cognitive screens aimed at improving the ability of the interdisciplinary team to provide services and discussed concerns with fellow team members. Followed several psychotherapy cases aimed at improving functionality and decreasing distress. All services delivered in Veterans’ homes or care facilities, and typically involved work with Veterans between the ages of 65 and 94. CLC focused on work within an interdisciplinary team in a residential setting, allowing for weekly sessions with Veterans. Although this clinic was a general mental health clinic, seeing Veterans with an array of diagnoses, my training focused on increasing knowledge of treatments to prepare Veterans for trauma-informed treatment and providing dual-diagnosis care. Led a 4-week CBT for Depression group, assisted and led a 6-week ACT group focused on dual diagnosis clients, and sat in on parts of a trauma-focused STEPS group based on DBT emotion regulation and distress tolerance modules. Collaborated with team members to determine best treatment options for Veterans.
