SUMMARY OF SKILLS

Rotordynamic design, testing, integration, pre–commissioning and commissioning of centrifugal air compressors

Developer of a GUI based code capable of finding lateral, torsional criticals and unbalance prediction (balancing procedure), with the same or better capability than XL-rotor, DYROBES, the popular codes in the industry.

Creation of SAFE and Campbell diagram for open impellers in spread sheet and its interpretation.

Design of shaft, gears, journal and tilting pad bearings.

Developed spread Sheet calculation for Alignment of shafts.

Knowledge of standards like API-614, API-672, API-684, ISO (6336, 1328, 21771, 53, 1940), AGMA 6011, and GD&T Y14.5

Programming using Matlab, Mathcad.

Basic knowledge in frequency spectrum analysis, instrument selection (eddy current probe)

Knowledge in balancing of rotors of centrifugal air compressor based on API 672 / ISO1940.

Knowledge in DFA, DFM, DFMEA for different parts and assemblies.

EXPERIENCE

Rotordynamics Design Engineer,

Elgi Equipments Ltd, Coimbatore, India (2007 - Present)

Graduate Engineer Trainee

2007-2008

ELGi Equipments Ltd is Asia’s largest manufacturer of Screw, Centrifugal and Reciprocating types Air Compressors. http://www.elgi.com/innovation/

Engineer

Technical Responsibilities

Performed lateral and torsional (drive train and coupling selection) analysis for 600hp, 800hp and 1100hp centrifugal air compressor’s rotors using DYROBES and verified Bode plot with test.

Designed journal, tilting pad, integrated thrust pad fluid-film bearings for centrifugal compressors using DYROBES. Reduced power consumption by 3.5 KW by optimizing the bearing design

Designed and sized gear and disc coupling based on the torsional analysis of drive train.

Designed and sized, shaft and gears based on ISO 6336, AGMA 6011 using own Mathcad code.

Analyzed and identified potential excitations using FFT of continuous data using own Matlab code

Successfully designed and tested Indigenous rotors with integrated thrust collar.

Designed the tool for impeller assembly and disassembly to facilitate integration of carbon ring seals

Carbon ring seal (dry gas seal) integration into the compressor.

Developed a 1D MATCHAD code based on Hagg & Sankey for interpreting the containment of impeller by scroll in the event of triburst later validated the prediction using results from ABAQUS.

Commissioned 800hp Centrifugal air compressor.

Designed Wind Turbine gearbox with KISSSOFT as a part of miniproject.

High-speed compressor rotor supported on ball bearing, with three blisk’s was modelled in XL-rotor

3D modeling and 2D drawing with GD&T (ASME Y14.5) using Solidworks

Evaluated the compliance of lube system for API 614

Fan design for a 2.3m3/s flow in terms of 1D velocity triangles and mechanical strength perspective, lateral rotordynamic analysis with XL-rotor

Management Responsibilities

Experienced in RCA using Fishbone diagram

ELGi Business System champion: responsible for creating roles, objectives and control points

Achieved cost reduction in couplings, bearings and seals without compromising quality

AWARDS, PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS, ACTIVITIES AND SEMINARS

Industry and Academic Awards

Awarded 2nd best Graduate Engineer Trainee of the 2007-08 GET batch of ELGi.

John Greenless Findlay Memorial Award at Cranfield University – The citation read as follows:

“The John Greenless Findlay Memorial Prize has been awarded to you in recognition of your excellent academic performance, your industriousness, and your personal qualities which had a very positive impact on the group dynamics of the Design of Rotating Machines MSc Course cohort of your year. Your average marks for the taught part of the course were the highest for the year and you also had a high mark for your thesis. Overall your combined mark was the second highest of the course which is all the more significant given that we had a number of very academically strong students from some of the best universities. The teaching staff was also impressed with your very positive attitude and your willingness to support your colleagues on many occasions. It therefore gives us great pleasure to make public the recognition of your high academic and personal qualities through the award of this well deserved prize.”
