EXPERIENCE
2016 Solar Gators (Design Engineer, Brakes), 7 Months GAINESVILLE, FL
Performed initial calculations based on the vehicle parameters to select foundation brake components. Used CATIA V5 to design 3D models using the CAD drawings of brake components procured from the supplier. Acted as liaison between my company and the supplier.
Performed thermo-structural FEA analysis using ABAQUS & found temperature rise, deformation & stress due to brake torque.
Prepared documentation for training of current & future employees. Participated in interdisciplinary team meetings to resolve issues.
2014Asian Plastics (Product Design Engineer), 9 Months NAGPUR, INDIA
Designed Plastic jewelry boxes for regional market. Gathered Voice of Customer (VOC) requirements and performed Market Research. Used QFD to evaluate the competitors’ products. Used Gantt Charts and CPM as project planning tools.
Used plastic product design principles to design part models in SOLIDWORKS. Created prototypes for presentation and gathered orders.
Communicated with mold manufacturers, discussed the gate locations, surface finishing and the cost reductions associated with it.
Involved in sales part of the process, took care of the customer satisfaction and gathered more orders.
2013 Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (Manufacturing Engineering Intern), 1 Month BANGALORE, INDIA
Designed jigs and fixtures using CATIA V5R2010 for assembly of the HJT-36 intermediate jet trainer using DFMA principles and generated CAD drawings using GD&T ASME Y14.5. Prepared DFMEA reports by consulting different engineering managers.
Gained knowledge about production of aircraft doors for Airbus A-320, sheet metal operations, 5-axis CNC machines.
PROJECTS
Formula SAE, FEA Based Design Optimization of Chassis Frame UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA
Performed modal analysis and static structural analysis using Ansys Workbench 16 on the chassis model developed using Solidworks.
Increased lower frequencies, for torsional elastic modes of vibration when engine and skin are considered as structural members, were found by modal analysis. This created room for weight reduction. Torsional stiffness was found by static structural analysis.
Made minor design changes near the engine and suspension mounting points based on the output of the FEA analysis.
Springback Prediction in Deep Drawing of Sheet Metal UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA
Reduced computation costs by modelling a quarter section of the geometry in Ansys Workbench 17.2. Applied boundary conditions based on the symmetry. Researched Implicit integration and Explicit integration techniques and computation costs for them.
Added material non-linearity by introducing multilinear isotropic hardening. Plastic stresses were added using Ludwig’s equation.
Used Augmented Lagrangian Formulation for lesser penetration and more sensitivity to contact normal stiffness. Manual reduction in contact normal stiffness resulted in easier convergence. Effect on springback by change in friction coefficients and geometry was found.
Gun Barrel Design and Durability Analysis UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA
Designed the gun barrel for M16 rifle. Calculated fatigue endurance life, used thick cylinder equations to find effective stress.
Increased the fatigue life by introducing Auttofrettage and calculated increased fatigue life using Modified Goodman Equation.
Performed Root Cause Analysis and found the impact of rifling grooves on the endurance life.
Geometry Cleanup and Static Structural Analysis of a Bicycle Frame CADD CENTER
Performed geometry cleanup of the surface design of a bicycle using PTC Creo.
Used Hypermesh to generate varying density mesh and performing element cleanup of the elements defying the quality criteria.
Improved design by performing Static Structural Analysis using Ansys Workbench and checking stress values at stress concentration areas and suggesting the changes needed in design. Achieved 13% reduction in stress value.
