Mechanical Engineer with the equivalent of three year’s hands-on experience in R&D, Manufacturing, Machining, and Quality Engineering. Experience includes R&D of automated quality factory inspection systems, three years teaching manufacturing in a machine shop, and a seven-month quality control industrial-educational exchange in France. My focus developing technology that helps people work more efficiently and live and better each day.
EDUCATION
Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), Suma Cum Laude 2017
EXPERIENCE
Production Manager, DBT Robotics, Worcester, MA Aug. 2017- Present
Leading implementation of continuous production of precision high-performance ceramics grinding through LEAN Manufacturing. Increased production rate 100% through tooling, fixture design, process and quality improvements.
Manufacturing Staff & Machining Instructor, Washburn Shops, WPI Jan. 2015 – May 2017
Electro-mechanical design, rapid prototyping, and manufacturing of student projects. Managed three-person teaching teams in Machine Shop: CNC, CAM/CAM DFM, DFA, and Mass. MEP vocational retraining machining courses to >150 students/year in Manufacturing Labs.
Quality Engineering Co-op, Saint-Gobain Abrasives, Conflans (Paris), France Jan-July 2016
Solved critical-to-replace manual, destructive inspection technique for continuous QC of 2 km abrasive webs at 1.5 m/s. Led team to identify key product requirements and system process limitations exceeding current state-of-the-art capabilities. Designed image treatment/lighting solution to achieve system requirements and overcome process limitations by correlating image properties with grain-application using a machine-learning algorithm. Presentation of proposed solution to senior management resulted in technical implementation plan for 2017 and acceptance of recommended vendor. French-English technical translator for equipment integration & operator training team.
Process Technology R&D Engineering Intern, Victaulic Co. Easton, PA May-Aug. 2015
Addressed need for QC machine vision rapid prototyping platform for inspection of high-volume parts through design & build of physical & electrical systems of mobile prototyping cart with Cognex cameras. Achieved 50% tolerance reduction of critical knit-seams through feasibility study, system modeling, and specification of robotic finishing to overcome manual inspection precision limitation in foundry. Redesigned manufacturing cell with self-stripping injection-molds and fixtures for 50-500% labor & 98% released defect reduction using automatic, full-coverage inspection to prevent catastrophic failure. Identification of engineering design specifications for novel piping accessory through end-user industry data survey to improve ease of use and eliminate major installation and maintenance complaint. Presentation of deliverables to CEO and senior management initiated first automation initiatives, and new product development launch.
