Served as operations & site manager for former Kieffer Paper Mills facility after purchase by Unicell.
Unicell’s intentions were to convert the existing facility from a recycled packaging paper mill to a tissue mill utilizing the existing buildings, recycled paper pulp mill, support systems, environmental permitting, & infrastructure of the former operation. (The project ultimately failed to materialize as Unicell’s parent corporation was unable to secure financing for the estimated $50 million project)
Onsite daily duties included site management & security, maintaining all active environmental permits through IDEM & EPA, 32 acre site, pulp mill buildings & equipment, process wastewater treatment plant, & process water supply system.
Worked extensively with Indiana Department of Economic Development to ensure multiple incentive programs were in place prior to project start. Worked with county & local government entities to ensure relevant tax abatements were in place prior to project start. Assisted corporate projects manager with engineering redesign & proposed retrofit of existing facility & equipment to accommodate the new tissue mill requirements.
Global / Offsite projects included one month assignment to assist with start-up of state of the art, $40 million pulp & tissue mill located in Arima, Trinidad. Research & negotiate purchase of used corrugating line from former Box, USA plant located in Memphis, TN. Also managed disassembly, containerization & shipment of corrugator to Unicell sister company for reassembly in Swaziland, South East Africa. Multiple troubleshooting projects for Unicell sister plants including reduction of fresh water usage in tissue & corrugated medium mill located in Johannesburg, South Africa, resulting in cost savings for both water supply systems & wastewater treatment systems of approximately 20 percent. Identifying & rectifying production bottlenecks in Arima, Trinidad pulp/tissue facility enabling mill to reach design production capabilities. Management of disassembly, containerization, & shipment of two surplus tissue converting lines from Brownstown facility to Zambia for reinstallation. Reported directly to corporate President/COO.

Served as operations manager for 24/7/365 recycled paper facility producing 70 tons per day of packaging grade papers & 140 tons per day of recycled, bleached, de-inked paper pulp for consumption by tissue & fine paper producers.
Responsibilities included management of all production, maintenance, facility, environmental & supply chain areas. Direct management of salaried team members including four production supervisors, two buyers, maintenance supervisor, stores manager & certified wastewater treatment plant supervisor.
Indirectly managed team of 80 hourly production & maintenance technicians. Responsible for creating & managing all operating, expense & capital budgets for all areas. Procured & managed all external contractors. Negotiated with & managed all utility suppliers. Worked closely with Human Resources Manager to resolve all labor issues.
