RE-DESIGN OF 3 WHEEL VEHICLE INTO A 4 WHEEL COMPACT SIZE EXPERIMENTAL VEHICLE

The objective of the project was to build a low cost of production, fuel efficient car, for individual use. A BAJAJ three-wheeler chassis and 150cc engine was modified to a single seater four-wheeler and all controls were fabricated for foot level operation functioning as clutch, brake, and accelerator and hand shift four-speed forward and one reverse gear.

• AutoCAD drafting of the prototype chassis layout, vehicle control system, body design

• Fabricating the seating system for driver, foot control systems

• Setting the front axle, steering system and cables for transmission control

• Conducted Road test for stability and pollution

• Achieved satisfactory fuel efficiency of 93 MPG

MODIFICATION AND IMPROVING THE PERFORMANCE OF PONTIAC “ASTRE” (1975) CAR INTO SPORTS CAR USING TURBOCHARGED INTERCOOLED PETROL ENGINE” The objective of the project was to convert a 1975 model Pontiac “ASTRE” rusted and scrap metal body and near to seizure conditioned engine, into a sports and passenger car. A 1.5 L Mitsubishi petrol engine was used with suitable modifications, and Petrol Engine was Turbocharged and NOS fitted to generate more power. Vehicle Body was tinkered and restored to factory condition

• Designed the prototype model of the final finished car exteriors and interiors in Pro-E

• Body Restructuring done to match racing standards

• Tinkering welding and reshaping works including fitment of power filter and hood air scoop

• Fabrication and fitment of skirts and spoiler

• Placing additional beam members for rigidity

• Strengthening the crumple zones in the body with heat treatment and additional metal skin welded on to the body to prevent high degree of damages to occupants during collision

• Matched turbocharger for the engine using Garrett GT turbocharger kit

• Modified Fuel Injectors for high speed, Gauges for driver’s information, Seating and Steering, Electronic Engine Control module

• Fitted on Board Diagnostics meter

• Tested engine on Engine dynamometer, hydraulic dynamometer, and Eddy Current Dynamometer.

• Painting and polishing done for enhancing appearance.

• Modification of brakes to all 4-ventilated disc configuration for higher braking efficiency and enhanced control

• Brake testing on race track

• Chassis tested for safety on Chassis Dynamometer
