Directed staff and hourly employees in the fabrication of precision sheet metal components and assemblies serving regional OEMs. Successfully drove implementation of plans and procedures resulting in ISO certification the first year. Bottom line, P&L responsibility for 80K square foot contract stamping and metal fabrication facility supplying Tier 1 Automotive customers and local sheet metal customers. Annual sales $18M; 150+/- employees, 200+ active tools.

Reported directly to CEO/Owner headquartered in Chicago, Ill.

Implemented LEAN initiatives, scrap reduction programs, and min/max inventory systems resulting in 20% productivity improvement, 50% scrap reduction, and 82% margin improvement over fiscal 2004 performance.

10/03 –12/04 Plant Manager, Atlas Sound (a division of Mitek Corporation) in Ennis, Texas

Bottom line, P&L responsibility for 300,000 square foot facility manufacturing commercial sound equipment for global customer base. Annual sales $34M. Tasked with “changing the culture” in an environment of MRP-driven, large batch process manufacturing characterized by bloated inventories, low inventory turns, poor quality, high employee turnover, and low expectations. Highlights of accomplishments:

Reporting to Chief Operating Officer, Mitek Corporation, Winslow, Ill.

Guided the development of management, professional, and non-exempt employees to improve organizational effectiveness

Planned and implemented organizational and procedural changes resulting in significant, unprecedented improvements including net profit increase of over 30%, revenue/head increase of 12.5%, and over 59% reduction in manufacturing defects

Provided direction and focus responsible for obtaining ISO9001-2000 certification in January of ’04 and subsequent follow-up UL recertification audit in August of this year

Responsible for all aspects of start up of factory expansion to serve Austin market – primarily Applied Materials.

Secured all permits, directed contractors, and obtained C of O, TNRCC permitting, and qualified powder and wet coating processes. Obtained AMAT F06 approval, hired staff, oversaw day to day operations of Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, Sales, Accounting, and Sheet metal fabrication, including powder/wet paint process as well as outside process (plating) supplier qualification and administration. Plant closed in November due to continuing downturn in semiconductor and support businesses.
