Education

Mr.Veralorca holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the City College of New York and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University

Federico Santa Maria.

Relevant Background

Water Treatment and Industrial Plants

They have included component calculations, P & ID development, design supervision, pre-commission testing of equipment such as 2500 KW generators, Generator Peak Shaving and Standby operations, Medium voltage MCCs for large AC motors, A-B, Modicon PLC & OIT controls and communications for plant SCADA systems..

The Power area have included, 13.8/4.16/ 0.480 KV substations with modern distribution protection relays such as the ones by Cutler- Hammer, SEL, Beckwith, etc

The power analysis have involved mainly the use of the SKM software, and the ETAP & Easy Power versions, to perform the System Short Circuit studies, the Protection Coordination Curves for relay settings and fuse suitability, Arc Flash assessments, large motor starting sequence and Plant Power Flow to determine the adequacy and optimal operation of the power system components.

The instrumentation field has included temperature, pressure, level instruments, spec and application of different types of flow meters, electrical scales, control, safety and modulating valves, SCR & VFD motor speed controllers, pressure & level sensors and transmitters, SCADA systems, wireless process monitoring and diverse control applications, etc.

Representative projects include:

-A variety of Power Instrumentation & Control projects for the Motiva refinery in P Arthur, TX

- Several Power, Instrumentation & Control projects for

- The FHR refinery in Rosemount,MN

- The Dupont Plant in Circleville, Ohio a

-City of Columbia WWT Plant Expansions, Columbia City, Ohio

-Delaware Water Reclamation Plants, Delaware County, Ohio

-Renick Flood Wall Station – Columbus, Ohio

-Huber Heights, Plain City and Southerly Water Treatment - Huber Heights, in Ohio

-FT Precision, Honda auto parts manufacturer – Fredericktown, Ohio

Assigned2 plants for over 7 years as Project System Engineer for DuPont Plants, in Parkersburg, WV & Circleville, Ohio –

Some upgrades includes 69/13.8-kV main substations, MV/LV distribution with two new 2.5 MVA SS and 480-V Secondary switchgears to feed new & existing MCCs. These projects included updating the plants short circuit calculations, the protection coordination, and the power flow study using the ETAP software.

The project activities included also equipment specifications, installation supervision, component tests, the plant shutdown, demolition, coordination to switch to the new sources. And the overall plant instrumentation and DCS control system updates were part of these assignments.

Other activities include the Herbicide Plant for DuPont Granulation and Drying System Facility, in Barranquilla, Colombia

This assignment involves a dual responsibility: Design Team Manager and Leader El./Instrumentation/Control Engineer. This project designed a dual 5 MVA, 34 /13.8 kV SS, 13.8 KV plant power distribution to local 13.8KV / 480V SS to feed the plant 480V MCCs. The design assignments included the plant short circuit calculations and the protection coordination, using the SKM software. Included in the design were the plant grounding, lightning protection, instrumentation and the PLC controls. The controls involved mainly a redundant Allen Bradley PLC 5/20 system, a second remote PLC, and three HMIs with Wonderware In Touch software for graphics, controls, and reports .The instrumentation included flow meters, electrical scales, control, modulating valves, pressure, level gages and electronic transmitters, etc. VFD motor speed controllers were part of this project. This Dupont project, designed mainly in the USA, required Mr Veralorca to direct the plant commissioning and personnel extensive training.

The following describes briefly some of the many projects Mr Veralorca has been involved with:

-Specifications and Bid Evaluations for Electrical Equipment, Numerous Projects, Various Locations – Provided specifications, project design including bid services for such equipment as 15-kV switchgears, distribution transformers, motor control centers, medium voltage controllers, power and instrument cables, control cabinets, intrusion / fire alarm and SCADA systems for a variety of projects in chemical plants.

-Crane Project, Century Aluminum, Ravenswood, West Virginia – Electrical engineer to convert the DC crane system to AC. It involved the design of additional new dual 5MVA, 13.2KV/480-V SS, the plant power flow study to determine the component performance . The project required the implementation and commissioning of the first two units.

-Allen-Bradley PLC Programming, Century Aluminum’s Fire System, Ravenswood, West Virginia -- This project included personnel training. The system consisted of three operation lines, each with a main PLC 5-30 and five slave PLCs 5-20, communicating via radio frequency to control the manufacturing of anodes.

-Instrumentation, Power, and Controls, Union Carbide Storage Facility, South Charleston, West Virginia – This project included relay cabinet designs, instrumentation, MCC specifications, and installation commissioning.

-Process and Instrument Diagrams Development (P&ID), Various Locations

Distributed control system and programmable controller programs, rack loading, and layouts for a variety of projects.

-Fisher Provox DCS and GE PLCs, Various Locations – Field installation, testing, and commissioning of the hardware wiring, field instruments, and verification of software through precommissioning tests.

-Peter Paul-Cadbury’s Confectionery Facility, Hazleton, Pennsylvania – Designed and installed control system software programs and the necessary hardware, for an Allen Bradley PLC 5, and 3 HMI system to control chocolate manufacturing process.
