The Massachusetts Housing and Shelter Alliance; Faces of Homelessness

MHASA is a federally funded program, staffed by VISTA workers, to bring awareness of the causes and effects of homelessness to the community. The Faces of Homelessness are a group of former homeless individuals who speak to groups about their history of homelessness to enlighten the listeners about homelessness. As a speaker I tell my story of how I became, lived through and recovered from homelessness with the intention of discrediting the stereotypes of the homeless and advocating for individual action to end the homeless condition in America. I recently completed a Leadership Development course designed by MHSA to prepare former homeless persons to serve as board members on non-profit social service organizations.
