Summary of Qualifications
I have been working with and teaching Tae Kwon Do to children and youth aged 4 and above since 1997.
I am very patience - especially when working with children age’s four to eight, as they tend to be very hyper at times or distracted by other students. I teach them how to listen - younger children are more active and tend to participate more if the instructors show and do the blocks and kicks with them as well. Making a small game out of it will make the children have fun and wanting to do more. I teach the importance of teamwork - if one team member makes a mistake, we all encourage him to do better, no one is better than the other, as everyone is equally important. I know how to prepare for different age groups. I establish weekly and monthly goals for each age level always including enough variety to make it interesting but not stressful. I encourage participation and work with youth to be self-motivated and confident. I use praise. I use encouragement when children are struggling. I have learned that shy students do best with partnering up with instructors at first and then as they become comfortable I pair them up with a student I think they will work best with. I teach, verbally and visually. For young children, it is works best with guiding them step by step when we can. Tae Kwon Do is not just kicking and punching, it is also requires remembering which block does what movement, which steps is made to what kick, and of course, learning 8 different types of PoomSae for their color belts, and 9 more when they become a black belt. Because this is a lot of take in, I take things slowly and only progress forward if the student is comfortable, as we will never force a student to hurry. I believe that how I teach Tae Kwon Do is applicable to teaching children any skill.

Teaching Strategy for Tae Kwon Do
1.Instructor, need to have strong patience - especially when working with children ages four to eight, as they tend to be very hyper at times or distracted by other students.
2. Instructor, teach them how to listen - younger children are much more active and tend to participate more if the instructors show and do the blocks and kicks with them as well. making a small game out of it will make the children have fun and wanting to do more. for example, when learning how to kick, we make it fun by having them hold their balance by standing on one foot as long as possible.
3. Instructor, teach the importance of teamwork - if one team member makes a mistake, everyone on the team will be punished. No one is better than the other, as everyone is equally important. When we hold a few recreation exercises such as running, we teach them that everyone need to clear obstacles properly or it will not count as a win.
4. Instructor, try and prepare different programs and have a small goal for the month. Instructor may teach students how to perform a specific kick, or have them learn a new set of blocks for that day or week. this is especially when learning Poom Sae (Form) for their next belt. Instructor try to include a lot of variety, but at the same time do not want to overwhelm them as it will become too stressful and make them uninterested in learning.
5. Instructor, encourage strong participation. Instructor look for kids to be self-motivated and have a confidence, and Instructor make sure the praise them if they are doing well, and help them if they are struggling. Instructor try and teach them that it is okay to make mistakes when trying something new, and use it to help them what is right and what is wrong, especially when learning their new Poom Sae(Form). some students are shy and tend to stay away from certain training and for those we find they work best with partnering up with instructors at first and then finding the next best partner for them to work with.
6. When Instructor to teach, Instructor teach both verbally and visually. To the younger children, it is worked best with both and guiding them step by step when Instructor can.
when Instructor feel that a student is ready to move on to learning the next step or new moves, then Instructor like to make sure they remember what they have learned first/passed.
Tae Kwon Do is not just kicking and punching, it is also remembering which block does what movement, which steps is made to what kick, and of course, learning 8 different types of PoomSae for their color belts, and 9 more when they become a black belt. it is also knowing what Tae Kwon Do is and learning the meaning of each color belt.
Because this is a lot of take in, especially for new students and younger children, Instructor take things slowly and only progress forward if the student is comfortable, as Instructor will never force a student to hurry.
If Instructor find a student is progressing very quickly, Instructor promote double belt promotions or any equivalent promote that what they deserved.
If a student is struggling, child or teenager, Instructor try and take the time to pull them aside and give short private lessons/attention to help improve them further.
