Partners with the NMCD grant managers in researching and writing local, regional, statewide grants to governmental organizations and respective foundations for funding to serve the inmate’s academic, career technical programming and re-entry needs. Partners with the NMCD grant manager in maintaining effective working relationships with staff from county, state and federal agencies including external grant managers of funding bodies. Partners with the NMCD grant managers in coordinating the implementation of grant awards and ensures post-award compliance. Partners with the NMCD grant manager in compiling financial and non-financial data for the preparation of internal reports, compliance reports, and grant billings.

Partners with the NMCD grant manager in interpreting federal, state, and local government laws and regulations regarding grant contracts and administration; ongoing monitoring of grant budgets and expenditures, program goals and monthly performance to ensure target measures are met.

Assist in developing and implementing operational policies to ensure the efficient operation of Recidivism Reduction Division.

Research, develop and collaborate with the Adult Prisons Division and the Recidivism Reduction Division to implement new career technical educational programs in all eleven (11) correctional facilities assisting inmates on all security levels.

Research, analyze, and monitor the data of all programming as it relates to evidence-based practices, promising practices, cost-benefit analysis, and reducing recidivism. Develop systems to track and present the data. Monitor and maintain the NMCD Results First Inventory.

Other duties include assisting with strategic planning with regard to reducing recidivism, under the direction of the Acting Director. Prepares and maintains contracts and assists with strategic planning of the budget by networking with various managers and staff of the New Mexico Corrections Department to evaluate and implement goals, responsibilities and policies & procedures of the Recidivism Reduction Division and other aspects of the Department's operations.

Supervise the hiring, recruitment, interviewing, and recommendations to the Deputy Secretary for employment, promotion, or dismissal consistent with policy.

Supervises the Education Program Administrator, assuring educational standards and goals are being set, and policies and procedures are being followed.

Supervises the Faith-based Coordinator, Statewide Reentry Program Administrator, Native American Program Coordinator, Operations Manager, and Executive Administrative Assistant, providing leadership and assuring goals towards reentry programming are met for the reduction of recidivism.

Responsible for monitoring outcomes for Reentry, Cognitive, Faith-based, Academic, and Career technical initiatives, etc. Conducts statistical analysis by researching and developing evidence-based programs unique to New Mexico considering population, culture, and geographic outlay.

Supervises the Management Analyst, providing leadership for research and development of programs and goals for strategic plan towards the mission of the Division and Department.

Supervises the Business Manager, managing the financial responsibilities of the Division, including budget, and grants. Assuring that all financials and programs reports submitted by the Division meet the objectives of the Division and Department

Monitors and exercises independent judgment to assure that programming meets federal and state statutes and regulations, for the most efficient, effective and viable ways to meet the goals of the Department.

Provide direct and indirect management oversight to one hundred and seventy-eight (178) positions at our eleven (11) correctional facilities and central office.

This position administers resources and supervises operational activities within this division, developing goals and objectives within the prison system to be met by a diverse staff of Educators, Clergy, and Administrative staff statewide.

Additionally, Statewide Reentry Program Administrator, Joseph Fasanella and I researched and collaborated with the Minnesota Department of Corrections, Community Reentry Unit to adapt, develop and implement the Making the Right Turn to Reentry Program for the New Mexico Corrections Department. The Making the Right Turn to Reentry Program is a pre-release program (approximately 20 hours) for inmates at all eleven (11) correctional facilities, with participation recommended for all inmates and provided at approximately six months prior to release. The curriculum covers ten (10) different areas of study to assist our inmates transitioning as returning citizens to our communities. This program was piloted in November 2014 and implemented to all eleven (11) correctional facilities in January 2015 providing pre-release programming to over 400 inmates to date.

August 2012-May 2013

Transitional Coordinator, Region II,

Probation & Parole Division, New Mexico Corrections Department, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Duties include responsibility for coordination of all transitional needs of our returning citizens from incarceration and the community for Region II, which includes the counties of Bernalillo, Sandoval and Valencia, assisting over 6,700 returning citizens daily.

Additionally duties also involves coordinating and being the liaising for the New Mexico Corrections Department, Probation & Parole Division with law enforcement, governmental officials, co-workers, local community providers and the general public to assist our returning citizens with their careers and/or employment, housing, addictions and interpersonal needs.

Duties include planning, organizing and training of staff members by creating a transitional living residence resource guide, local community provider resource list and other programs to assist our returning citizens.

Additionally, Offender Workforce Development Specialist, Rachel May from Eagles Unlimited and I collaborated, researched, developed and implemented the Career Assistance to Develop Employment Tools for Success (C.A.D.E.T.S.) program, which is a career development program for our returning citizens that will be implemented in six difference areas of Region II, instructing our returning citizens in numerous ways to assist in their career discovery and development. This program was implemented from November 2012 to May 2013 providing career development program to over 145 returning citizens with a 95.27% completion rate.

July 2010-August 2012

Probation & Parole Officer, Transitional Reporting Center & Pre-sentence Unit,

Probation & Parole Division, New Mexico Corrections Department, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Duties include completing intakes on new probationers following their sentencing and parolees following their release from incarceration, while assisting with their employment, counseling, reporting, and family issues.

Duties included working with probation and parolees by observing urinalysis drug testing and breathalyzer testing, working with Interstate Compact in regards to transferring cases out of state and completing intakes for out-of-state cases for supervision.

Additionally, I also learned and completed numerous pre-sentence reports for our courts and executive clemency applications for the governor’s office.

One of the duties, I really enjoy is working with the probationers and parolees in regards to their re-habilitation back to the community. I also really enjoy being able to make a positive impact on both these probationers and parolees and to the community.

Working for the Department of Corrections, has been an on-going learning experience, in that every day is different, with numerous different issues that are addressed on a daily basis. I really enjoy working with probation and parolees; it is quite an experience trying to implement new ideas to this probation and parolees to help them re-integrate back into the community.

Duties included working with developmentally disabled sex offenders in a group home setting. This included transporting and assisting these offenders by taking them out in the community to their employment, counseling, and various activities.

These offenders are a risk to the community, so constant supervision is required. It required dealing with numerous offenders on different levels of development as well as their treatment and life development skills to re-integrate these offenders back to the community.

Duties included working with offenders by observing urinalysis and breathalyzer testing, as well as the "checking-in" and monitoring the schedules of the offenders.

Conducting along with my teammates, field visits by both phone and in person, as well as employment visits both by phone and in person.

Case management was completed at the day reporting center for the day-reporting offenders.

During this period, I conducted Pre-trial Interviews, prepared reports from those interviews for Mesa County Court Judges and assisted in the supervising of those offenders who I released from jail on Pre-trial bonds.

Other various duties included completing Pre-trial Statistics and imputing court information into our computers to help assist other team members, as well as assisting my team members by conducting Useful Public Service intakes and properly assigning these offenders to the proper Useful Public Services sites to complete their hours.

Duties included dispatching security officers to various duties and emergencies, as well as monitoring a Closed Circuit Television of 35 monitors with over 100 cameras, a six-line telecommunications center and an intrusion alarm system for a campus of over 10,000 personnel to include students and staff.

As a security officer, I responded to various duties on a daily basis as well as emergencies occurring on the college property as well as working with outside Emergency Medical Services and local Law Enforcement during these emergencies.
