SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS

* Ten years of Linux experience including installation, maintenance, and kernel configuration/compilation on several x86 distributions including Debian, PCLinuxOS, OpenSuSE, and Red Hat. C software development and debugging using GDB/DDD and strace along with an occasional Bash script. I have used crosstool, crosstool-ng, buildroot, and ptxdist to build several tool chains and used them to cross compile the Linux kernel, GDB, busybox, grub and U-boot to run on x86, ARM, and PPC embedded computers. I have configured and used U-boot to boot from a network using tftp and to use NFS for the root file system. I am currently looking for a tool chain and build system to consolidate building Linux systems for several ARM based embedded computers including the BeagleBoard, BeagleBoard Black, Raspberry Pi, an Allwinner A10 based SBC, and the Linux Stamp.

* Over sixteen years of system level device driver, and embedded C and assembly programming experience including interrupt handlers and DMA on a wide variety of 8, 16, and 32 bit microprocessors/micro-controllers on OS and bare metal based systems.

* Over sixteen years of experience with peripheral interface hardware and software protocols including RS-232, I2C, T1/E1, HDLC, X.25 and telecom TDM buses. One year of experience using Unix sockets API for TCP/IP and UDP/IP interfaces. Several years of experience with SCSI and other types of parallel peripheral interfaces.

* Over sixteen years of hardware design experience with a wide variety of 8, 16, and 32 bit microprocessors/micro-controllers with static and dynamic memory interfaces. PLD, CPLD, and FPGA programming.

* Over sixteen years of hardware and software debugging experience using analog/digital oscilloscopes, in circuit emulators, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

2008-2010 Consultant - Gentrifi LLC, Oak Brook, IL Four years working part time as a GPS/SMS/GPRS tracking devices hardware, test software and device configuration software design consultant using Linux for both test and device software.

2002-2007 Drafting Technician - Doug Connaly and Associates, Dallas TX 1999-2001 System Software Development Engineer - Teltronics Inc., Addison TX

Two years working with team members to update and improve the hardware design and firmware of an existing digital telephone. Ported and added new firmware (in assembly) for the new design that included new LCD display functionality, storage and display of caller ID information, and on desk firmware upgrades. Built and programmed LCD display test fixture using prototype of new phone hardware. 1995-1999 Product Development Engineer - Telstrat Inc., Plano TX Four years working with team members and alone to design, program

(C and assembly), and debug embedded enhancement products for Nortel PBXs.

Debugged and designed hardware and software fixes for two products that allowed Nortel to provide to their customers less expensive ways to expand the reach of their PBX voice/data line card shelves to remote locations using T1 and fiber optic connections. Designed the hardware and programmed a product that allowed any computer to operate Nortel digital line interface phones using an asynchronous RS 232 interface and the Hayes modem command set. Programmed and debugged, along with other team members a product that allowed Nortel to expand the PBX shelf line card interface to connect to remote voice/data digital phones and home office computer Ethernet ports using ISDN.

Programmed system tests, debugged, and designed hardware modifications for a Pentium class PC computer designed to be inserted into Nortel PBX shelves to replace external PCs that provided database services running SCO UNIX.

These products enabled the company to grow 50% in two years. 1985-1994 Engineering Technician/Hardware designer/programmer - RelTec, Bedford, TX

Nine + years working with team members and alone to design, program

(C and assembly), and debug several IBM PC/AT bus interface boards, and embedded communications interface/conversion boards Modified existing stand alone intelligent star LAN terminal design to function in an IBM PC as a star LAN terminal emulator board using dual port memory interface. Wrote test programs and interface routines for this board.

Designed the hardware, wrote test programs and device drivers for an IBM PC/AT bus, first party DMA, high speed WAN board. Designed the hardware, wrote test and interface programs for an IBM PC/AT bus 68302 based X.25 board.

Programmed device drivers and low level interface routines to several commercial IBM PC/AT bus, first party DMA SCSI controllers to replace a proprietary database file server and OS with a PC running under MS-DOS. Ported all device drivers and interface routines to run under the Phar Lap DOS extender.

These designs and drivers contributed to a major technology and performance upgrade to an existing product with a minimum change in existing software that customers required for updating their database servers and terminals leading to $8 million in new contracts. It also improved the acceptance of the product line with prospective customers that led to $15 million worth of new contracts. Designed the hardware and programmed a synchronous DDS to asynchronous RS-232 interface conversion board which lead to me becoming the co-holder of two U.S. Patents.

EDUCATION

Associates Degree in Applied Arts and Sciences from Eastfield Community College, 1978. Digital Electronics major with a 3.51 (out of 4) grade point average. Member of Phi Theta Kappa.
