oContract Management Consultant, I was a key participant in the effort to transfer $90 million in sales from a closing Stant facility to the Connersville facility.

oContract Management Consultant, brought on board to facilitate the plant startup, generate and submit the PPAPs for the products, and ensure seamless transfer of work from other facilities.

oDirector of Quality (contract), employed for a 6 month (minimum) contract to streamline the flow of work in and around the inspection functions. The contract was expanded to include all work flow throughout the organization with a 20% reduction in material movement resulting.

oThe Quality department was completely reorganized and Key Metrics were implemented resulting in a 15% decrease in internal defects.

Managed 19 salaried Quality Engineers and 50 hourly Quality Technicians / Auditors. My tenure at Camryn spanned many varying products from seat frames to complete seat assemblies to injection molded plastic automotive interior and exterior components and full exterior mirror assemblies. The most notable, and longest lasting task, was developing and managing the Quality System for the GMT900 seat frame business, the Hummer H-2 full-seat assemblies, the Mustang and Mazda 6 seat frames as well as other seating related components.

During my time as the Seating Division Quality Manager the following were accomplished:

A sustained PPM (external) of <9 for any rolling 3 month period

A “World Class Supplier” rating from Lear corporation for initial quality

1.6 million units shipped in 2008 with a total of four defects received at the combination of nine customers

Our quality system was chosen as an example of responsiveness and effectiveness by A.M. General

Our salaried leadership team consisted of five people. Our hourly team, at peak production, numbered only 91, and we had annual sales of $120 million

Camryn was benchmarked by Lear Corporation for the lean implementation of GM’s Quality System Basics.

As the Quality Manager for the Exteriors division the following was achieved:

The CMM lab was re-organized and the flow of material controlled, which improved through put by 25% without adding any indirect labor.

Through training, the CMM programmer was able to prove 0.009mm volumetric accuracy which enabled us to self-certify and use our CMM lab to perform “3rd-Party” measurements from our gauge suppliers, which saved an average of $117,000 per year in contract metrology costs.

The dimensional measurement systems were completely re-tooled to increase efficiency and promote confidence in the data presented.

SPC data collection was implemented to drive process improvement. This resulted in a 3% reduction in PPM to Toyota, for which we were tier-1

Note: Two former employees, which were mentored via the training system I have devised, have moved on to become Quality Managers, themselves.

One had been a CMM programmer, was promoted (by another organization) to Quality Engineer, and is now the Quality manager at an automotive facility.

The other was a production supervisor who showed excellent discrimination and judgement. I pulled him into the Quality department and began the process of training him. He is now the Director of Quality for an electronics supplier.
