PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

US EPA GIS + Project Coordination Research Participant Oak Ridge Institute for Science + Education (ORISE) Mar 2016 – Present

Reignited stalled EPA-funded project to identify watershed nitrogen sources via GIS mapping, statistical analysis, field and lab work. Drove end-to-end project management execution of daily tasks by all parties throughout project lifecycle.

Laid GIS groundwork and data research that encompassed watersheds, sub-basins, rivers, streams and contour lines delineation.

Oversaw complex 12-person field work prep and logistics key to quality water sampling and ground-truthing. Established lab analysis SOPs, assisted with instrument maintenance/calibration and performed microbial assays.

Authored research progress reports and posters for presentation at scientific conferences.

First author of research manuscript detailing study findings for nitrogen transport + cycling in a local urban watershed, scheduled for Dec 2017 Science of the Total Environment submission.

Earth Science + Remote Sensing Consultant NASA DEVELOP Jan 2015 – Nov 2015

Partnered with municipalities throughout complex projects that applied NASA’s Earth Science + Remote Sensing technology to investigate, analyze and mitigate wide-ranging environmental challenges. Findings presented before scientific conference audiences.

NASA DEVELOP Natchez Trace Ecological Forecasting + Water Resources Project (Sep 2015 – Nov 2015)

Produced land cover and land use change mapping products for the Natchez Trace Parkway, in partnership with the National Park Service, to locate wetland conditions and areas at high risk for flooding.

Developed technical instruction, that, together with new team member mentoring, resolved GIS hardware and software issues.

Used GIS/map modeling software and satellite imagery to create Land Use/Land Cover (LULC) classification maps that evaluated land use change and flooding patterns.

NASA DEVELOP Mississippi Water Resources II Project (Jan 2015 – Apr 2015)

Mapped invasive species habitat “hot spots” and created forecast models in partnership with The Nature Conservancy and The Pascagoula River Audubon Center.

Findings presented at the SOFOR GIS conference assisted with a proactive v. reactive response to area’s restoration and conservation efforts.

Environmental Sciences Special Project Intern Escambia County Sep 2015 – Dec 2015

Employed GPS data generation, map production, geospatial analysis and LULC classification knowledge to support County’s green development and sustainability efforts.

Key member of team applauded for quality and detail throughout protocol development and execution of the 1st comprehensive inventory of 18-month vegetation growing on complex’s LEED-certified green roof – providing insulation and reducing energy usage.

Collected, measured and evaluated percolation rates of pervious concrete pavement used to support EPA-compliant storm water collection and groundwater recharging. Findings obtained using an Embedded Ring Infiltrometer Kit (ERIK) were key to maintenance and replacement schedule decision-making.

GIS Intern City of Pensacola Jan 2014 – April 2014

As sole intern dedicated to City’s Building Footprint Quality Improvement Initiative, trusted to ensure layer accuracy throughout mapping and spatial database development – addressing errors in feature layers via aerial imagery analysis.

Employed ArcGIS software to edit/update data content in an ArcSDE environment. Created features, populated and verified data fields against property appraiser data records. Ground-truthed via field work and Google Earth/Maps.

GIS Graduate Teaching Assistant University of West Florida Aug 2013 – Dec 2013

Drove a marked improvement in undergraduate student performance throughout facilitation of 12 modules comprising the Introduction to GIS course.

Educated students on use of geo-referencing, ModelBuilder and other ArcGIS tools while also assisting with class management, grading and lab exercises.

Provided instruction regarding map design, watershed delineation, and data properties, projects, coordinate systems, editing and research.
