For personal development purposes: I Installed SQL Server 2016 in the cloud on a Windows Server Virtual Machines (VMs) running on Azure. It allows you to run SQL Server inside a virtual machine in the cloud. it is built on standardized hardware that is owned, hosted, and maintained by Microsoft. I have been utilizing Azure as a test environment to implement, apply best practices for SQL server in general, explore, and to solidify my knowledge using different tools such as SSIS (Building SSIS packages to extract, transform and load (ETL) data from different sources into destination targets, Logging and data auditing) SSAS (I have my own cube, tabular module for testing and development) SSRS & Report Builder to create informative, flexible management and operational reports.
