Fluid System Details

WBM – The following is a partial list of water based mud systems used. If a system type is not listed, there is a good chance I have experience with it, just not as extensive as the noted. With 20 years of drilling fluids experience it is difficult to list every type of system encountered. Polynox – Was lead engineer on multiple GoM shelf wells using Baroid’s Polynox system in the 1990s. The Polynox system was a high lime system designed to control rheology and fluid loss at high temperatures (+150 C) compared to other lime muds. This system had a pronounced break over hump due to flocculation.

BOREMAX – Was fluids coordinator on multiple Boremax wells in South Texas. Boremax is a fresh water non-dispersed, low solids system, using Clay Grabber, which is a liquid emulsion synthetic polymeric flocculent and clay encapsulator.

GEM – Was lead engineer and fluids coordinator on 6 GEM wells in the GoM. GEM stood for Glycol Enhanced Mud and utilized GEM GP (high cloud point) or GEM CP (low cloud point). Cloud point is the point where the concentration of glycol is sufficient to seal micro fractures and induced fractures. Both polyglcol systems are used to decrease HTHP and increase lubricity, in addition to shale stabilization. KCL / Polymer Systems – Lead engineer or fluids coordinator of dozens of KCl / polymer systems of different varieties. The addition of the potassium ion into the system effectively inhibits clay swelling and provides a stable wellbore. They can be ran with a variety of polymers for fluid loss control and rheology control. The stability of the system also allows it to be used as the base for glycol and polyamine systems.

Salt saturated systems – Lead engineer or fluids coordinator on dozens of salt saturated systems. Salt Saturated systems are very effective for drilling salt zones. NaCl systems – Designed Marcellus specific NaCl based systems based on matching the in situ formation salinity and the drilling fluid salinity to minimize osmotic fluid transfer. PERFORMAX – Coordinator for multiple Performax systems in the GoM. Performax used a combination of glycol and aluminum complex chemistry, enhanced by deformable polymers for well bore stabilization and enhanced performance.

TERRA-MAX – Coordinator for dozens of well utilizing TERRA-MAX, primarily in the US mid continent and Rockies regions. Very similar to the PERFORMAX system in product mix and performance, but was for land use only.

ULTRAHIB – Coordinator for multiple ULTRAHIB wells in the Marcellus and other US shale areas. The ULTRAHIB system utilizes liquid polyamine for shale inhibition. INVERT EMULSION - The following is a partial list of invert emulsion mud systems used. If a system type is not listed, there is a good chance I have experience with it, just not as extensive as the noted. With 20 years of drilling fluids experience it is difficult to list every type of system encountered. Diesel based systems – Lead engineer or coordinator on dozens of diesel based drilling fluid systems in multiple regions globally. Have utilized the system both on land and offshore. Low Toxicity Oil Based Systems – Lead engineer or coordinator on numerous LTOBM systems using a variety of base oils, including Escaid 110, Saraline and numerous other oils in multiple US and global basins. Have utilized the system on land primarily, but also on 6 to 8 offshore wells. Synthetic Oil Based Systems – Lead Engineer or coordinator on dozens of GoM wells utilizing blends of linear alpha olefin oils (LAO), internal olefins (IO) and/or esters. These systems are designed to allow the fluid to reach region specific environmental regulations to allow for overboard discharge of the cuttings. A list of specific SBF –

Rheologic (Flat rheology system)
