Introduction

Enoch is a media and communication specialist, presently working as a consultant and part-time lecturer of Journalism Practise at the University of the Witwatersrand.

He started his journalism career in 1988 when he enrolled as a Cadet Journalist at the then New Nation newspaper, before being admitted as a Journalist.

He has since worked in various positions in the fields of journalism, corporate and government communication, public relations agency sector and executive management.

Education and vocational training

Enoch is presently in the final year of studies for a BA (Honours) degree in Journalism and Media Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand. He is scheduled to graduate on 3 December 2017.

He has accomplished various professional training programmes in Journalism, Media Studies, Management as well as English language teaching, as follows:

Cadet Journalism training at New Nation newspaper (Johannesburg, 1988);

Writing and Editing training at the Institute for the Advancement of Journalism (Johannesburg, 1992);

Media Management at Poynter Institute for Media Studies (Florida, USA, 1993);

Government Communication organized by the then South African Communication Service (SACS), now Government Communication and Information Service (GCIS) (Cape Town, 1994); Defence Management at the Public and Development Management of the University of the Witwatersrand (Johannesburg, 1995);

Career Path

Enoch is presently Executive Director of African Universal Media, a Johannesburg-based media consultancy, and lecturers Journalism Practise at the University of the Witwatersrand, on a part-time basis.

Between 2006 and 2013 Enoch worked for the Sisulu Media Group. In this Group he was deployed to various companies and occupied various positions as follows:

Urban Brew Studios: Head of Special Projects, 2008-2013.

Stonehouse Graphics: Chief Executive, 2007-2008.

Fuse Communication (Africa): Chief Executive, 2006-2007.

Exp Momentum: Managing Director for Government Business, 2005-2006.

Prior to the Sisulu Media Group, Enoch had worked at the following institutions:

PR Dynamics: Managing Director, 2005.

Lowveld Media: Editor of Mpumalanga News and Publisher of Mpumalanga Mirror, 2004-2005.

New Africa Investments Limited (Nail): Africa Business Consultant, 2000- 2004.

Between 1995 and 2000, Enoch worked for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) where he occupied the following positions:

Chief Executive of the News Division, 1999-2000.

Senior General Manager of the Audience Services Division, 1998-2000.

General Manager: Corporate Communication, Marketing and Public Affairs, 1996-1998.

Manager for Public Policy and Government Liaison, 1995-1996.

Enoch had a stint in the civil service having worked as Deputy-Director for Media Liaison of the Constitutional Assembly in 1994-5.

New Nation (newspaper) is where he started his career in 1988 as a Cadet Journalist and subsequently reporting on health, education and politics culminating with the positions of Political Editor and Senior Assistant Editor.

Major projects and campaigns

Among the various projects in which he has excelled, Enoch launched and managed the Constitutional Assembly’s marketing communication campaign, which succeeded in informing and educating millions of South Africans about the constitution-making process in 1994/5.

Launched the SABC’s post-apartheid corporate identity.

Conceptualised, launched and managed the SABC’s TV Licences turnaround strategy in 1997.

Established the SABC’s News Division, fusing the then separate departments of radio and television news in 2000.

Launched Mpumalanga Mirror, which is a newspaper based in Nelspruit in 2005.

Leading the Urban Brew Studios’ team that established South Sudan Television (SSTV).

Awards

Enoch is an award winning journalist, having won the inaugural Courageous Journalism Award in 1992 for investigative journalism.

His documentary entitled A Luta Continua: Samora Machel, 20 Years Later, was a finalist in the 2007 SAFTA Documentary Awards.

Language ability

Enoch speaks and write fluently in English, Portuguese, Zulu, Swazi and Tsonga.

Career ambitions

Enoch plans to spend more time teaching journalism, as a way of sharing his vast knowledge with young entrants to the profession.
