Career Overview
I am a Rigging Supervisor/Superintendent. I have 39 years extensive experience in oil and gas, civils, general rigging and energy. I worked on various plants such as the petrol chemical plant, Sasol 2 and 3, SAPREF refinery (Shell and BP) and ENGEN refinery. I have been involved in the building and hook ups of oil rigs, lifting equipment and erection of structural steel, the erection of boilers and furnaces and the installing of conveyors.I can compile a riggers pack based on any given drawing. I have an excellent knowledge of pipe fitting, boiler making, working with rotating equipment, and mechanical fitting such as motors, pumps, heat exchanges and various types of valves. I prepare rigging work packs such as the checklist, lifting tackle certificates, method statements, road map to install equipment, drawing of plot plan for equipment to be installed, safe working procedures and risk assessment plan (RAP).
I have excellent communication skills and always practice safety first with extensive knowledge of HSE. I also test and examine cranes and lifting gear. After the examination of the cranes and rigging gear I record them in a Journal for inspection purposes. I also do safety and tool box talks every morning. I am involved in planning of lifts from 1 ton to 390 tons with various team leaders, training and mentoring of junior riggers and crane drivers.
I have all the relevant experience In Mechanical Engineering with relevance to oil and gas, civils, energy and general rigging and am also familiar with all types of gases. During my working career I have always been involved in all engineering and planning meetings. I always endevour to protect the assets of the company and meet all the deadlines timeously. I am involved in contracting through Neil's Rigging, my own company. I am Red seal certified. My heaviest lift was 295 ton on the Moss gas project in 1989.
