August, 2016 – Present Eberspaecher Group Tuscaloosa, AL

Plant Manager

Engineering Manager

Responsible for non-union Exhaust Technology automotive plant of 350 employees with Sales in excess of $225M. Eberspaecher is a Mercedes feeder plant, supplying several different variants of exhaust systems to the Vance, AL plant. Eberspaecher is a global company of 8,600 employees and Sales of $5B. Initial duties involved hiring staff and improving metrics. Accomplished, and successfully continuing to improve overall plant performance and profits.

October, 2014 – June, 2016 Tarkett Inc. Florence, AL

Director of Operations

Engineering Manager

Responsible for all aspects of the operation of a plant of 450 union employees and all staff. Turnaround venture. Reporting to the President of NA. Tarkett is a flooring company with $3B in sales. The Florence West plant (the larger of two on campus) makes luxury vinyl flooring. The plant was staffed at 130 employees when I arrived. Due to a major product transfer, we grew the plant to 450 over a period of 6 months. We also had to hire all new department heads. The turnaround proved difficult but successful, with all areas of the business hitting budgeted numbers 6 months after I took the lead. A year or more was the expectation.

January, 2009 – October, 2014 Gates Corporation (Gates Rubber) Elizabethtown, KY

Plant Manager

Responsible for Manufacturing, HR, Engineering, Materials, Quality, and Accounting departments in a TS-16949, union facility of 150 employees. Directs and coordinates plant operations. Ensures that objectives are achieved at the lowest cost consistent with quality/customer requirements. Delegates authority to key supervisors in production, production control, methods, cost accounting, maintenance and related operations.

February, 2007 – January, 2009 Gates Corporation (Gates Rubber) Elizabethtown, KY

Operations Manager

Responsible for Manufacturing, Maintenance, and Engineering functions in a TS-16949, union facility of 180 employees. SME (subject matter expert) in Problem Solving and Error Proofing. Targeted to improve scrap from 7% to 3% and improve labor from a $400,000 to zero. Achieved both goals through 6-sigma, lean methodology and saved the company $700,000 annually.

Also managed Green and Black Belt activities for annual cost-downs of $500,000. Improved overall plant appearance through 5S, and reduced union grievances by more than 50%.

July, 2006 – February, 2007 Dura Automotive Systems Matamoros, Mexico

Plant Manager

Responsible for startup of new injection molding facility consisting of 200 employees.

Traditional Staff Managers include: Materials, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, Human Resources, and Manufacturing all of whom are direct reports.

Targeted to improve profit margins from 1-5% to 20-25% (US to MX) within one year.

Also Project Manager for the transition from the US facility.

Responsible for all manufacturing personnel and all manufacturing activities including Industrial Engineering. Extensive knowledge in the areas of efficiency, productivity, and scrap reduction through Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement/Six Sigma principles in a TS-16949 certified automotive facility consisting of 900 employees.

Averaged in excess of $1M annual cost savings through Continuous Improvement applications for past three years against $160M sales base.

Reduced PPM from 150 to 25 from ’04 to ’05

Decreased scrap by 50% or $700K from ‘04 to ‘05

Plant Superintendent

Responsible for manufacturing activities on three shifts, including two General Supervisors, 16 Production Supervisors, and 800 hourly employees. Duties involved budgeting all manufacturing expenses, labor, overtime, scrap, and efficiency. Experienced in QS-9000, Kaizen Principles, and Empowerment and their practical application for Continuous Improvement.

Accomplishments included significant improvement in scrap and efficiency within 12 months and continually thereafter, continual achievement of budget objectives in manufacturing accounts, achievement of QS-9000 Certification, and reduced overhead in manufacturing.
