Introduction

I have spent my entire working career in maintenance; twenty six of those years were in paper related 24/7 manufacturing. My primary position at the plant level was maintenance planning, safety, training and corporate legacy CMMS (MIMS) support.

I was recruited by International Paper’s, Corporate Finance Group to be a member of a worldwide SAP Implementation Team. The team consisted of 125 people to cover the SAP modules being implemented. There were 26 on the SAP PM Team; I was considered a process person because of my plant level experience. There were 6 of us that acted as project leaders, our responsibility was to go to the facility, form a team, build the functional location structure, scrub, convert and load their legacy data to the SAP test client . The next step was to blue print the proposed SAP PM users for security profiles and training requirements. Train the SAP PM Power Users and supervise the training prior to go-live. We then supported the Go-Live until released by the plant. The plant would then become our account for ongoing support. In the 6 years I was on the team, we implemented SAP in over 100 plants, worldwide.

My latest SAP PM consulting contract involves re-implementing SAP PM for the Houston Independent School District, (HISD). The project involves, 300 schools, a call center to create the Notifications, 2 area technician dispatch facilities, transportation hubs and nutrition support. Note: I was one of eight PM consultants.

26 years of 24/7 manufacturing maintenance support. Starting as a technician through area manager.

11 years experienced in 4 full cycle SAP PM implementations.

Consulting experience with – Paper manufacturing and converting, chemical plants, oil and gas E&P, open pit mining and service related maintenance.

Plant Maintenance implementations and re-implementations – Master data scrubbing including documents and SOP’s. Production area equipment review with SAP PM Team prior to building the functional location structure. Discussions on building the structure as process or reporting. How many levels to build to. How many notifications types, work order types, who initiates/reviews/approves, use of statuses, activities, work centers, planner groups, task lists, short text, long text, PM plans, strategies, MM interface with BOMs, item text 1&2, catalog profiles, ABC indicator, class/characteristic, construction type, permits and measuring points.

Train master data maintenance and creation to the plant’s MDA (Master Data Administrator).

Wrote SAP PM Specifications and worked with system support on new custom programs. I understand configuration and often review a problem in the system before requesting investigation or change. I was not approved for configuration because of corporate security policies.

Working knowledge of SAP modules interface with PM.

Strong communication skills using Microsoft office products.

Strong background in EH&S, process reliability and continuous improvement.

Strong interpersonal skills resulting from years of maintenance related training and Corporate Team Leader training classes.

Turnaround Planner and scheduler for monthly and annual outages.

Planned and supervised inspection and repairs for recovery boiler, pressure vessels, digesters, sewers, steam turbines, compressors, lime kilns and tanks.

Clients Supported: Verso Paper, Evergreen Packaging, Hess Oil and Gas, Newmont Gold’s, Twin Creeks Mine’s

Verso Paper, Jay Maine Plant - SAP PM Implementation that included converting CMMS legacy data, train super users and trainers. Supervise the training of 650 supervisors, operators and maintenance personnel. Follow up with after care until released by plant

Evergreen Packaging, Pine Bluff, AK Plant - SAP PM Re-implementation - The SAP PM system was in place, but not being used because of a very poor initial implementation. Cleaned up the 12,000 notifications and work order backlog. Revised the functional location structure to a current state. Organized the maintenance planning department to plan and schedule based on SAP PM. Developed training material and personally trained managers, operators and maintenance personnel.

Hess Oil and Gas, Tioga, ND, SAP (ECC 6.0) PM Planning and Scheduling implementation for Oil and Gas well production and LPG processing plant. Mapped business process, cleaned up Master Data, developed training material and trained 250 Operators, Supervisors and 9 Maintenance Planners. This project was another situation where the system was in place, but not being used as designed.

Implementation follow up at Newmont Gold’s, Twin Creeks Mine’s, Mobile Maintenance. Worked with the Maintenance Planning Group to help them understand how SAP PM should be used in order to reap the benefits of history and cost tracking in order to meet budget and improve reliability. EH&S was a big concern also. Developed subject related manuals to replace their very technical manuals that just confused the users. Developed the manuals bases on years of experience training and coaching the people who actually use the system.

Newmont’s, Nevada Operations. Implemented SAP PM in Mine Explorations Drill Services. Assigned master data to their structure. Developed training manuals that supported the Drill Services Operation. Trained their manager and crew on how to use the system to their advantage.

Phase two of this consulting position was Newmont’s SAP WM Implementation. SAP PM Consultant to WM Implementation Team. Wrote test scripts for SAP Warehouse Management (WM) integration to SAP Plant Maintenance (PM). Assisted in the warehouse design layout in order to facilitate material staging prior to shipping to mine sites. The project went as planned with a smooth implementation.
