OBJECTIVE

Dedicated and motivated Chemical Engineering graduate seeking to secure an entry level position to launch my career.

EDUCATION

University of Maine, Orono, ME Graduated Dec. 2016, Cum Laude Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics

GPA: 3.383

University of Maine Merit Award Scholarship

Richard E. Durst Scholarship for Chemical Engineers, 2016 recipient Francis Crowe Society for Engineering Excellence

University of Maine Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Society (2013- 2016)

Related Coursework: Heterogeneous Catalysis, Heat and Mass Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Kinetics and Reactor Design, Unit Operations, Simulation and Synthesis of Chemical Processes, Economics of Chemical Processes, Statistical Process Control

Certification: Engineer-Intern Certification (Awarded 7/14/17) State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers, Responsible Conduct of Research for Undergraduates (awarded 2/22/16) University of Maine

Specialized Training and Skills

• Six Sigma and LEAN tools introductory course, taught by Minitab.

• Proficient in Mathcad, Aspen Tech Simulation software, Minitab, MatLab, Microsoft Office

EXPERIENCE

Research Lab Assistant at the University of Maine, Chemical Engineering Department Spring 2016

• Tested the performance of an experimental catalyst for an industrial client of the Forest and Bio-products Research Institute.

• Conducted reactions with the catalyst and various chemicals in small batch reactors.

• Analyzed the samples at each time interval in a chromatography unit, and plotted the data to determine rates of reaction.

Chemical Engineering Senior Capstone Projects Spring 2016

1st Project

• Determined the economic viability of producing terephthalic acid (TA) from di-methyl-furan (DMF) converted from renewable woody biomass. Presented our results; the design was economically favorable, and produced TA from a bio-renewable resource.

• Utilized Aspen Tech simulation software to model and optimize the separation and reactor units. Designed the capacity of the equipment and estimated the cost of the units involved in the process.

• Calculated and designed the heat integration, using thermodynamic properties, for the process employing the unwanted products, water, and natural gas with Mathcad software.

2nd Project

• Evaluated the viability of a membrane designed to separate Hydrogen and Carbon Dioxide which were byproducts of a water-gas- shift reaction during reforming processes. Cryogenic Distillation, the current technology used, was expensive and energy intensive. The alternative membrane design used less expensive membranes, and compressors.

• Supervised the design of the unit using intensive numerical integration to simulate the nanofiltration and obtain membrane areas. The series of smaller membranes and larger compressors successfully separated 95% Hydrogen from the Carbon Dioxide.

3rd Project

• Marketed a technical sales pitch for a brand of membranes used to separate whey concentrate and whey isolate from raw milk. The challenge was to show how our product met the customers’ specific needs with superior value.

• Presented the technical value of the design, the business values of cost effectiveness and superior output, and the personal value of improved work life balance. The presentation successfully communicated real, understandable, economic value.
