Scope of responsibility included safety, materials management, manufacturing operations, Lean-Six Sigma, Quality Assurance, new product development, regulatory compliance, facility engineering, and team building, among others. As Director of Operations Multi-Site Metal Forming, charged to effectively manage high precision close tolerance processes including tube mill, metal stamping, machining, over molding and wire forming utilizing 100+ alloys and super elastic metals with full P&L accountability.

Puritan Bennett TYCO Healthcare manufactures specialty medical products designed to sustain breathing in hospital, sub-acute and home care settings.

Challenged to engineer turnaround of 180K sq. ft. plant, including union avoidance. Supervised team of 8 direct and 235 indirect employees. Facility capabilities include stainless steel fabrication, machine shop, TUV code welding, assembly, testing, warehousing and worldwide distribution. Provided support to Galway, Ireland operations.

KEY CONTRIBUTIONS & ACHIEVEMENTS:

Eliminated $3 million backorder and increased production by 60% (2001) and 30% (2002) to meet increased demand. Achieved up to $1 million cost savings through relocation of machine shop from CA.

Implemented Lean Manufacturing, KAIZEN, and Six Sigma principles. Utilized Lean techniques to reorganize Customer Service Center, streamlining processes from 4-5 week to 5-7 day turnaround time.

Directed construction of new plant retaining majority of trained labor skill sets.

Vertically integrated needle manufacturing, monomer/polymers, extrusion, braiding, suture assembly, sterilization, and packaging that represented $140 million in revenue. Continuously improved manufacturing operation variances from $9M unfavorable in 1996 to $11.3 M favorable in 2000.
